This is not a probability of success.

IIRC I used a putty knife to spread the load, and a large flat blade screwdriver to pry.

I've tried just using my hands, and the fork trim tool to leverage but neither of them are willing to budge.

I used a twisting motion on the screwdriver, so that the side of the blade nearest the ball is forcing the connector up.

I haven't removed this part in particular, but in general I'd recommend using two pry bars against each other.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I am pulling on it with as much force as I did the shift knob and it's not budging. I've tried just using my hands, and the fork trim tool to leverage but neither of them are willing to budge. All the videos related to this just brush over how to remove these and I'm finding myself scared of bending the metal bracket. Anyone got any tips on what I can do? This is for the 5 speed as well, and there is a linkage in between that it looks like I need to remove too to get the blue cable out.

POST 2Original post

I haven't removed this part in particular, but in general I'd recommend using two pry bars against each other. They both must be relatively flat to fit beneath the cable end fitting and the bracket. The first bar spreads the load out across the bracket, to prevent deforming it, and it gives the second bar a firm base to pry against. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

POST 3Original post

I did what Croc'ed is recommending. IIRC I used a putty knife to spread the load, and a large flat blade screwdriver to pry. I used a twisting motion on the screwdriver, so that the side of the blade nearest the ball is forcing the connector up. The rubber in that connector is probably 10+ years old, so it has hardened, making the job tougher. Good luck!

POST 4Original post

You all are a godsend! I had a bunch of longer flat blade screwdrivers that made it difficult to get them in the right position. I went out and bought two stubby flat heads with the widest flathead I could find and that did the trick!

POST 5Original post

Excellent, glad we could help! That's the value of a board like this.
