My dad just replaced his 987 key two months ago for Literally 700$ total with programming at the dealer and to our great horror he can't find it..Soo, I'm wondering if he got ripped off and there's hopefully a much cheaper route to get a new key??

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 2Original post

From time-to-time, you can find used keys on ebay. Last May I bought one for < $50 for my 987.2. It was in like-new condition. In my case, I only needed it to fix my broken FOB. I was able to transfer the old blade and transmitter. Assuming your father still has the other key, he can get a blank blade and have it cut by a locksmith. That would only lock/unlock the door. A dealer would still need to program the car to recognize the new transmitter. But that should only be a small labor charge. Oh, do him a favor and buy a couple Tiles to put on his key rings. Find your keys with your phone!

POST 3Original post

Thanks for the advice! It's funny you mention tile because he had one the key chain that is a year and 2 months old but I can't get a signal from it so I'm assuming the battery died. That or his keys are way past the 100 ft range you get with tile Bluetooth sadly
