Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It doesn't seem to change much as you speed up either.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I am new to 996 land and it is good!
However, my car has developed an annoying chirping from the top of the dash. Sounds like it is where the dash butts up to the firewall, but sticking fingers down the gap does nothing to stop it and there is no movement in the dash if you push or pull it.
There appears to be a foam strip in the gap but too far down to feel porperly and it doesn't feel like it is being compressed like it is a tight fit. The noise starts as soon as you move the car even at crawling speeds. It doesn't seem to change much as you speed up either.
Any thoughts what it might be? Is is this something you more experienced 996ers have heard of before? A common issue?
:?: Help please!

Dashboard noise
Try the front centre console which surrounds the PCM unit. Hold it firmly in when driving and see if the noise stops. If it does then 2 options. One is to wedge a small piece of folded paper under the top edge. The second is to remove it (it just unclips by careful prying off all round) and then check the top two lips of the surround sit either side of the top retaining lip - if not the dash will squeak at any speed. I also put a small piece of foam at the top as well which has helped. Best of luck
Thanks DRDT, but it is defo a chirping/squeak from the top of the dash and not near the PCM. Sound like something is rubbing, almost wonder if it is the screen not properly fitted or the plastic cowl on the outside chirping...
Have you tried changing the aircon settings? it could be from the fans.
I had an annoying squeak from the right side vent [needed reseating],
and there is always a slight fan noise from the left side airvent. :dont know:

Not sure if this is your problem, but its another avenue to investigate...
