Hi, where is located the fuel filter and how and when it should be replaced?
I refer to this OEM nr. 99611025301. It's correct for my model? I find it on mds-parts.de, but don't find on
Porsche
PET for my car, there is only a carbon filter with another OEM number.
Thanks at all and excuse me for my poor English
What is the model year of your car?
Some MYs do not have a servicable fuel filter, it is part of the fuel pump housing into which the fuel pump is secured and this whole thing is in the tank and sits (most of the time) submerged in gasoline.
My 02
Boxster
has such a setup and the fuel pump lasted for over 200K miles and upon replacement the filter (a very fine mesh in the lower portion of thefuel pump housing) while it had some trash trapped the amount trapped was no where near the point fuel flow into the pump would have been affected.
Thanks for the reply. My
Cayman S
is the 2006 model.
While I'm not sure I believe your car does not have a servicable fuel filter. but check with your
Porsche
dealer parts counter guy. I did and that's how I found out my car didn't have a serviceable fuel filter.
Thank you, all my doubts were clarified. The
cayman
does not have a serviceable filter. What I have found refers to the model 996.
Thanks again
Guess what I found out today....
There is another filter inside the fuel sender. The gauze on the bottom of the pump is NOT the only filter, the one inside the fuel sender unit (non servicable) is a foam type, and mine was full of black ****. Replaced the fuel sender unit and the car is much better.
You can take the sender apart and remove it and clean it, but mine was beyond repair, full of gunge.
I'm assuming the sender unit is also in the tank? I was pretty sure the filter was part of the fuel pump inside the tank, but I found a listing for a separate fuel filter at German filters.com for my '06 S so I ordered one with other filters, only to confirm that it was indeed for the 996/
Boxster
models. I informed them of this fact and they took it back and refunded not only my purchase price but return postage as well. Good folks(no connection, just a satisfied customer) but the means the only way to service the filters is to get into the tank, not an insurmountable problem, but not a 30 minute job either.
Yes thats right, its the unit that seals off the tank and connects via one hose to the pump which sits in the bottom of the tank. The sender also controls fuel pressure, I have a new sender on order as I still think its not quite right. I think the sender basically has a valve inside which controls the fuel flow and dumps any excess back into the tank. As my filter was full of black gunk, and my car is still not performing right at low revs/high torque that the fuel pressure on load may not be correct, hence the valve at fault.

The fuel level sender does not control fuel pressure.
Good luck
Thanks for the info. Was very usefull. Do yo know were can I get the gas sender filter?
