Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

I also install the new filter element into the filter housing and then fill the housing to about 2 inches from the top, to allow enough tipping of the housing to re-install without spilling the new oil everywhere.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Morning everybody. So I just finished watching a video of a gent doing an oil change on a Countach. I have two questions for you. What do you think of the chrome molly engine flush? Myself I've never been a big engine flush guy, I'm more of a "change the oil and cartridge way more frequently than necessary" guy. Second and more interesting to me was his half fill of new oil in the filter. Now I was taught as a lad to always to wet the ring with fresh oil but not the half fill. To do that in a Porsche canister would be pretty simple but is it really worth the endeavor? I'm an anti engine wear man as much as the rest of you so it will be interesting to read your responses, everyone have a great Monday.

POST 2Original post

The quicker the oil gets pushed into the engine the better. Filling the filter as much as possible is a good idea as it eliminates the delay while the engine fills it rather than pumping through the block. MOO

POST 3Original post

Not easy to pre-fill on all Porsches. My last 911 (997 GTS ) had the oil filter screw down from the top; would be impossible to half fill.

POST 4Original post

I also prefill the canister. I fill it to 1/3 - 1/2 to give room for the filter so it doesn't overflow. Easy to do in the 987, just install the filter, put the oil in the canister and raise it into position and screw it on.

POST 5Original post

Yep, that's the same with my 2nd car. I found photos of the 987 before commenting. Looks like it's straight up from the bottom. Nice and clean.

POST 6Original post

I also install the new filter element into the filter housing and then fill the housing to about 2 inches from the top, to allow enough tipping of the housing to re-install without spilling the new oil everywhere.
