Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there, First time user on the forum so I hope this finds its way to the correct section. I know the 996 has common problems with the door latch plate moving on the B pillar and rust developing. I also know that Porsche refuse to honour this under their 10 year anti-corrosion warranty. Isn't that what a warranty is for?? Anyway, I have very minor bubbles appearing in this region but wanted to get them sorted before they worsen. Has anybody had any experience with this? And if so can they recommend anyone? Thanks for your help. 2002 C4

POST 2Original post

Hi and :welcome: It's only a minor problem, later models were fitted with a plastic backing piece. Easy to unscrew it and touch up the paint yourself. Use masking tape to align the catch before removal, then it makes refitting very quick. Don't think you can buy the plastic backing without purchasing the entire catch plate, so make one up yourself using adhesive sticky-back plastic. TB

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

tbrown, many thanks for the prompt reply, and indeed the tip. Only follow up comments would be that they are only bubbles at this stage, so touch up paint is really not the issue, rather removing what is under the bubbles. This I suspect will require a little more expertise. But as you say, it is not major. Interestingly, I did read somewhere that Porsche started using the backing plate on post 2000 models. Mine is a late '01 facelift so I suspect behind it there is some sort of backing plate. Any other suggestions/experiences/feedback most welcome. Good call on the Ocean Blue by the way. Great colour!
