Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi everyone . I just bought a 2008 Cayman 2.7 a with 91,000 miles on it a couple weeks ago . I had Porsche do a PPI and it checked out good except a few minor things like the low horn and interior drivers door handle . I got the 50 page PPI report and researched how to read the over rev ( I have automatic there were only a couple in range 1) What else can that giant report tell Me ? Can it tell me anything else about the engine or transmission ? Is there a resource that will explain the details of the report ? The car runs great and this is my first Porsche . I have been reading a lot on the forum and I am thinking to get an oil analysis done too. I hope everything will check out fine and it would give me some piece of mind but I’m also scared if something shows up .. anyone have any thoughts ?

I'd forgettaboutit and enjoy driving your Cayman . You bought the model with the most reliable engine Porsche has made since they started making watercooled flat-6's. You have PDK so over-revs aren't an issue (range-1 isn't considered an over-rev). Sure - get an oil analysis done if it makes you feel better - but it will come back telling you the engine is doing well. Drive it. Enjoy it. That's what it was built for.

POST 3Original post

Hi Thank you . I feel the same way but I felt like I’m getting sucked into all the testing and worrisome . I love the car so far and it’s not a daily driver . Thanks again

POST 4Original post

I’ll second the “drive it” sentiment. I’m also not clear what advice you want from the forum when you the 50pg report in your hands. Maybe you should read it and then ask specific questions if something isn’t clear. We can tell you about something we haven’t seen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ll take a look. I haven’t been a forum member to long but I have been searching about the 50 page report I got when Porsche did the PPI. The only reference to that report that I have been able to find so far has been how to read the over rev report page . . There a pages and pages of data . A lot of electrical stuff but there is also engine related data which makes no sense to me . I’m at work now but when I get home I’ll pick some more specific pieces of the report. I would imagine there is info in there about other performance aspects of the engine when they had the car hooked into the computer that would show other health related information . I thought maybe there would be a source that broke down all the pages and different tests they ran to explain what the numbers all mean . With all the knowledgeable people on the forum that have had these cars for a while I thought there would be more on all that data . It could be I’m just not looking in the right place which is most likely .

POST 6Original post

I think you're looking at this as if there is a standard PPI report (meaning there would be standard PPI specifications..) That's far from the actual case. The dealer you used is unusual in giving you a 50 page report - most are a page or two at most, with brief descriptions of what they looked at and what they found. Things like an over-rev report are simply fluff since you have a PDK and over-revs aren't allowed to happen. I'll expand on what I said before "Forgeddaboutit and go drive it.. that's what it's built for.."

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
