newbie here with a couple of ?'s
1) How do I tell if I have a factory alarm? It's not listed in the option sheet, but I have found a few things that the car has that are also not llisted (like homelink, cruise, etc.). There are two sections in the OM about locking/unlocking the care on w/o and one w/ an alarm.
2) I cannot tell if the doors are locking when I start the car. After reading the manual it states that the way they lock can be changed by the dealer. I took the car to the dealer and asked they be changed to lock when I roll (exceed 3-6 MPH). They took it into the service dept and came back and told me I don't have that option
. I can change that on my Honda very easy..
Thanks.
As far as I know, the factory alarm system is not an option but standard equipment. I'd also try another dealer to see if you get the same story on the auto lock feature. Doesn't sound right to me.
When I picked up my car new in 2007, I specifically asked the dealer to change the behavior of the door to auto lock at 5 MPH since people here love to yank you out of the car at stoplights to steal it.
Either the service tech at the dealer is incompetent or too lazy to read up on the
PWIS
codes on how to change this.
If you do a search on here using "auto door lock", I'd bet there is a post back from 2006-2007 on what codes are needed. I must have read that here in order for me to tell the dealer what I wanted before delivery.
I hate dealers.. They had my car for almost an hour..supposedly a reputable dealer (not the one I bought my car from)
Sit in your car with door closed and lock car using the key fob - wait a minute or two then move around - the alarm (horn and lights flashing) should activate.
My door lock button LED flashes after I lock the car. I assumed that was the alarm.
When it's armed, the red LED will light at the central unlocking button.
Ofcourse you should have this option. It was changed (at the dealer's shop) on mine (2005/Boxster...).
Go back to the dealer and show them page 22 of the owner's manual (automatic door locking). There are indeed four options for locking the car. I have mine set for auto locking at 6mph. The central locking LED will light when it is locked. While you are at it, get them to re-code your keys for an extended trigger time for your front and rear trunk access. I had them extend mine to help curb the accidental unlocking while the keys were in my pocket...most irritating to have it unlock while you are in the house watching TV, or washing the car.
I am fighting with my dealer via
Porsche
right now for several reasons, one being the dealer said they can't do the lock/unlock option on page 22 that I wanted, so they gave me the above 5mph setting. It's a pain in the ***. #2-they also put in 10 qts of oil when the manual states 8.2. #3-they only screwed up the rubber trunk stops instead of doing the W.I. for the trunk clunk, which I still have.
Sorry to hear of your troubles. Maybe they charged you for 10 quarts ($$$) while the tech put in the correct amount? I know, still not an excuse but it could be just a misprint on the invoice.
What does you oil level read, all the way at the top?
On the oil side it depends on how they check the oil. If they check it immediately after they fill the car it may appear to be low. If the tech then adds a quart above the 8.2 that puts him just above 9 quarts. So you may get charged for 10 quarts but not have 10 in the engine. It depends on whether they consider a partial quart as a full quart for billing purposes. Still, it sounds like you have too much oil.
