Hello everyone,
I searched through Google and then the forums and didn't find too much to help with this issue. I found one possible solution, but anyway, here's what happened.
I have a 2006 Cayman S, 60k miles, Bose system, everything has been great over the last few years. But today I drove to work, was there for about an hour. Went out to the car to run up the street. Parked, went inside for another half hour. Came back out, turned it on and now I only have sound in one speaker. The driver side rear speaker is the only one playing. I spent a couple minutes fiddling with the balance but no luck. I read up that the ASK amp might be the cause? Could it just be a loose connection? (Prior to this I've had absolutely no static or rattling or anything wrong with the speakers).
Edit: I guess I should point out, that one single speaker seems obnoxiously loud. I had it down to "1" on the dial and it still felt pretty uncomfortable.
Anyone have a list of check offs that I can run through before I leave it with a shop to charge me a ton of money?
Thanks!
Most likely the ASK amp shorted and is shot. Here you go $70.00 NEW!

OP stated that he has BLOWS. Needs a different amp.
Thanks guys. Is there anything I should test first before I try to pick up a new one?
And are they terribly difficult to change or could I knock this out myself? (I'd say I'm about a 6/10 on handiness skills)
I had a weird issue with my Bose radio. It was as though the noise cancelling was out of synch and actually amplifying background cabin noise. I tried all sorts of things including disconnecting the battery and eventually decided it was the amp and bought a used one on ebay. Meanwhile, I had the fuses pulled for both the amp and radio. When I went to swap amps, I decided to test if the old one worked and it did and has been working fine since.
Therefore, my recommendation is to pull the fuses and leave them out at least overnight. Just disconnecting the battery for a few minutes was not enough to reset the amp. Probably some capacitors and stuff take a while to drain down.
I'll give that a try this weekend, thank you.
