Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anybony know if the sport 996 seats (picture attatched) are wider than the original seat of my 2002 996? Thinking of upgrading

POST 2Original post

They are what I have in my car, and they feel narrower than the standard seats to me. I'm not particularly lardy-ar$ed, but they are a bit tight on the thighs for me. I'm thinking about changing them myself - but to a wider seat!

POST 4Original post

WICKED! That looks lovely and comfy! Do they do them in maroon velour? And there was me thinking I'd get a pair of these. No contest now!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

how about on the back of the seat, same with or wider ?

POST 6Original post

Again, it feels slightly narrower, due to the wings at the top, which you feel on your shoulders. The wings aren't very effective, btw. There isn't much lumbar support on the seat back either. I put a foam pad behind the base of the rear cushion, which helped.

POST 7Original post

Richard I find the poor lumbar support a problem also. I drive around with a small folded towel behind my lower back - are you saying there is a way to modify standard seats to put more paddng in there? I never thought to ask that question. D'oh! PS sorry OP for thread creep!

POST 8Original post

Eh? I find the lumbar support on the sport seats the best I've ever encountered on any car. Certainly when I hop into my Focus daily driver after a spell in the 911 it feels like there's a hole in the seat where the lumbar support should be... Shoulder room, now that's a different matter. Works for me but I'm pretty svelte, standard seats did feel more comfy (ie roomy) when I tried them.

POST 9Original post

My choice would be Cobra Misano seats- they look really cool. http://www.cobraseats.com/misano.htm They do them in leather/alcantara, they recline and tip forward, are very light, and sort of remind me of the 997 GT2 seats. I have a dream one day I might fit a pair in my C4S Some in situ in a 993TT http://www.specialistcarsltd.co.uk/item/55/catid/24

POST 10Original post

That looks like whatI have got in the Cayenne On a serious note I am what you would desribe as "slim" and I find the standard 996 seats narrow so god knows what "fuller gentleman" would think.

POST 12Original post

I have the electric lumbar support in mine, however don't find the seats as comfortable as BMW's typical/ old sports seats.

POST 13Original post

I used to use a folded towel too. I got a piece of dense foam rubber, about 3/4" thick, around 9"x6", and tucked it behind the centre seat back cushion, low down. A big improvement.

POST 14Original post

I've had quite a few BMW's and E39 (older 5 series) sports seats are just about the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in - I do miss them on long journeys P.
