Just drop it into a good indie or OPC if I were you for a test then decide whether to get them to do it or do it yourself.

I seem to have a problem with the operation of the hood on my 98 996 Cabriolet. The hood operates fine when using the remote key or key in the door lock but does not operate when using the switch on the dash. This started happening intermitently but now will not work at all. The only thing I can think of is when operating remotely you do'nt need the handbrake on but you do when operating from the switch on the dash, so maybe the microswtich on the handbrake has failed? The car is a Tiptronic so I hardly ever use the handbrake. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Mike

Well you are probably right. If it works ok from the key fob it can only really be the switch in the handbrake (does the handbrake warning light come on ...although I'm not sure this is the same switch) or the dash switch itself. Niether of which can be very expensive to fix. Just drop it into a good indie or OPC if I were you for a test then decide whether to get them to do it or do it yourself.

+1 for handbrake microswitch. This went on mine a few years back with the same symptoms. have since installed SmartTop which I wouldn't be without on a pre facelift 996 cab.

looks like my handbrake microswitch has gone now as also can operate hood from the fob or in the door lock, but not the swtich on the fascia. Is this an easy DIY?
