bluetooth phone works perfectly. Bluetooth audio for music does not seem to even exist.
questions:
1.) is that an option i can have my local

dealer add on or install?
2.) is there a way to have the music stream through the usb port in the center console?
-I bought a
Digitl Robust 360° Adjustable Seat Bolt Car Mount Vehicle Hands-Free Tablet Holder for Apple iPad (all versions) / Samsung Galaxy Note / Galaxy Tab /
and would like to plug my iPad into the usb to keep it charged while playing my synced iTunes music through it until i find a way to mount the iPad directly into where the PCM display is...
any knowledgeable help would deb very much appreciated.
thank you.
want to know this as well.
i'd rather plug a USB stick drive loaded with MP3 files...
However I use the bt streaming constantly in my Focus,
amazon
prime music or iTunes Radio, I no longer even need to buy music. I find cords confining.

Erik,
The issue is I would like to stream music using bluetooth but cannot. It seems that my
PCM
2.2.1 does not support audio over bluetooth, just phone calls and navigation. hence my first question, is this something my dealer can add?
If not I guess a bluetooth dongle would work to stream the audio although I am skeptical to find that it will support both devices at once (ie phone over bluetooth + device over bluetooth).
Lastly, with regards to cords, I have yet to find a way to avoid using a cord to charge my phone in the car so since it needs to be plugged in anyways therefore I refuse to use an AUX cable to listen as that would add +1 cords to the equation but I don't mind it streaming via USB if it is getting power. In fact, I prefer it since I can set up a cradle in the car with the cord hidden and let it charge and stream at the same time. However, I still run into the same issue here, I am unable to stream music via usb / ipod dock with my
iPhone
5s through the
PCM
interface provided.
Thank you,
Correct. The BT streaming is actually called A2DP. I don't have a PCM2.X or any for that matter as I'm still hunting for the car. My Focus has this horrible MyFordTouch which is one of the first I've had that would use A2DP without a fight.
The Bluetooth dongle would work, I've used the Schoche one in the past but it required charging. However the phone sees it as just a set of head phones so all audio, phone rings and music (and email, txt, and all the other dings your phone might do) comes through it too. For $40 I've found the thing uber useful for rental cars

Bad thing being as soon as you doc your phone it'll switch off bluetooth and into doc mode, hence no phone support. Sadly that's the reason I gave up on charging my phone in the car, it's actually Apples functionality, not the car so much at that point.
Actually what I've decided to do now is the following: Since I need the device to charge I've set it up directly through the iPod dock and stream my phone through bluetooth. My iPad Mini Retina has a SIM card so I actually receive my texts on there via iMessage as well as on my phone and can reply using Siri either through bluetooth or through the iPad. Both Navigation and Phone calls stop any music playing and seem to play nice with each other... My only peeve at this point is finding a mount that isn't too cumbersome - the 987.2 interior is small enough
Edit: I really liked this guy's thing here:

That's the kind of stuff I used to do for a living. Not sure if you saw his 75 man hours to do that. I've seen mini in dash mounts for the 987, they arn't perfect but pretty good really. Another simple fix is to clip the pins on the charger so it only charges. There is a comm connection in the lightning connector, that tells the phone it's connected to a doc and not just a power source. This could be as simple as using a cig lighter plug and plugging the USB cabe into that. Most of those don't bother with a comm channel as they are only supplying power. I commend you on taking this on. 10 years ago I would have. Now I really try not to
Thanks for the tip on clipping the power supply. However, I actually want it to stream through that cable AND charge so I think i'll leave it be since that seems to be working fine. Like I said, I just pair my phone through the
PCM
to use phone while driving, the rest is through the cable. The added benefit is that there is doesn't not seem to be much loss of quality through the wire, and since it has to charge anyways, it's works out better that way.
with regards to the bezel over the
ipad
, if you know a place where I can find one I would really appreciate it. I can imagine that 75 hr of labor had a little something to do with trial and error.
I looked into this a while back, and found a lot of articles using this gizmo:
Amazon.com: ViseeO Tune2air WMA1000: Cell Phones & Accessories
But I never got one or implemented, so no comments there.
But I want "streaming" so that Pandora, Spotfiy, etc. will work, as well as phone and Waze.
