Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Yet the temp never goes above normal running temp.

The temp warning light came on but once I tightened the clip on the pipe and left it overnght the next morning the temp warning light was off but the problem persists

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The water pressure iseems to be getting high causing the pipe at the bottom of the expansion tank to spew water out, the water is airated/ foamy. Yet the temp never goes above normal running temp. The temp warning light came on but once I tightened the clip on the pipe and left it overnght the next morning the temp warning light was off but the problem persists Any thoughts?

POST 2Original post

I'm no expert, but the pressure release valve might be a place to start.

POST 3Original post

Pressure building up in the cooling system could be a couple of simple things and a couple of bad things. Normally if pressure builds up for some reason the coolant would come out via the pressure release valve on the top of the header tank. (its a round black unit with a wire clip in top) . This might be faulty forcing fluid out of the next weakest area ; in your case the lower hose. You may have a crack around the base of the tank or at the pipe union, or a faulty hose. The header tank caps are also famous for failing and a modified one was introduced I think for the face lift cars and can be bought from any OPC.(you dont say which model you have...if its a turbo then someone else will help) So one of those may be the problem. However in normal circumstances whilst the coolant system is pressurised it is not excessive and would not normally lose water in any serious amount. The bad bit is that a pressurised coolant system is a symptom of cylinder head failure (they are prone to cracking) and /or a cracked cylider liner. Check for any sign of oil in the water or water in the oil. Although this is not always present. The fact that you say its frothy would tend to indicate that it is being airiated in some way. If its not one of the simple things get it to a good indie or more particularly Hartech or Autofarm who specialise in these faults and can offer cost effective solutions. Hope its one of the simple things.
