Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey all...I'm trying to install a QI45 system and I've got everything setup in the front grills...but I cannot for the life of me find a good spot to run the wire into the interior of the car through the firewall. Is there a standard spot to run through? I found a rubber grommet that seems like the spot but it seems to go into a box behind the cd player? Am I just crazy and am missing an obvious spot? Please help...I need to finish this install tomorrow! lol Thx.

POST 2Original post

That grommet is accessible from inside. It is a common place to run wiring into the frunk. Also, near the clutch/brake there is another large grommet with a wire harness through it that I used when installing my NAV. You can just drill a small hole in either grommet. I think you might need to remove the battery to get a drill bit on the one you mentioned. Don't drill deeper than you need to penetrate the grommet - you might hit something. Once you have a hole, feed about 1 foot of the wire through from the frunk side. You will be able to reach it from the footwell. You might need to pull back some carpet or insulation. I don't recall any problems getting access to it from the footwell - but that was a year ago. I also had the side panels off of the center console when doing the install, but I don't think that is required.

POST 3Original post

If you have pdk there is a large rubber grommets where the clutch linkage goes through the firewall... Makes running a cable (xm in my case) ridiculously simple.

POST 4Original post

Gen 1's have a large rubber grommet behind the battery . Worth taking a quick look to see if Gen 2 is the same

POST 5Original post

Mine is a 1st gen...but I may need to remove the battery to see if this is the case... I found a grommet that I can stick my finger through that looks like it's meant for this purpose...i fed the wire through and it seemed to continue to flow through, but when i checked under the dash i couldnt find it anywhere...my only conclusion is that it was in that 'box' plastic area behind the cd player console...id really rather not have to take that out if i can help it. I checked where the clutch/brake enter, but the sleeves are so tight that I don't know how I'd get anything else through that hole. I'm going to go take the battery out and see if that opens up any solutions, I'd just hoped there would be a setup more accessible... Please leave more thoughts/ideas and I'll try as I encounter challenges. Thanks guys!

POST 6Original post

The battery grommet goes into the passenger compartment. I have my XM & Traqmate antenna wires passing through it.

POST 7Original post

+1 on my Gen 1 there is a grommet from the front trunk to the battery area. With the battery removed there is an additional grommet into the passenger compartment.

POST 8Original post

Alright success...the wire is through... I bought one of those 'add a fuse' connectors and crimped it to my power cord coming out of my radar control unit. Only problems are: A) the fuse size is too small for any of my open fuse areas B) I'm not sure which of my empty fuse bays can be used for accessories and Provide an 'always on' state while the car is on So is there a better place to run my hot for a safe, always on connection? I'm also having a hard time finding a good ground under my dash so I'm considering running it into the drunk through that same grommet to secure a ground...better ideas? Thx for the help all...I know that's alot, but I've only had her for a couple months and this is my first dive into her inner workings so I'm fumbling around like a 14 year old boy taking off his first bra...in the dark.

POST 9Original post

You Georgia boys wearin' bra's at 14 now! The add a fuse pigtails come it 2 sizes. I bought the wrong size the first time too. If I remember correctly there are some places to find a ground on the front of the center console. Do a search there are some threads on the power tap & grounding.

POST 10Original post

Yeah we start'em young down here! Yeah I found out the pigtail was wrong and exchanged it. Went ahead and fished the ground into the frunk and grounded it under a suspension screw. Darn thing won't turn on in any of the empty bays in the fuse box tho. Any ideas as to which fuse spot will work for this type of always on accessory?

POST 11Original post

This is drivin' me crazy... I've tried 4 or 5 different fuse locations for the pigtail power supply and nothing seems to work. The car doesnt have to be 'on' does it? Just the key in power-on position? I've tried regrounding... The only other option I can think of is to tap directly into a 12v line under the dash...which just scares me to start cutting into those wires...does anyone know of an easily accesible line under there to tap into? Color/location/purpose, etc?

POST 12Original post

Does the fuse thingie you bought have two fuse sockets? The thing replaces an existing fuse in the box. One of the sockets is the original circuit, the other is the new (extended) circuit. Most of the fuses in the fuse box are hot all the time. You want one that is switched. I used B-9 for my NAV. If you can''t get your unit to power-up, try a multi-meter. Test for DC voltage. Why not just ground to the battery?

POST 13Original post

I'm a visual guy. While I'm sure all these posts make perfect sense to all of you, I, on the other hand, have no idea what you're talkin' 'bout. Could someone please take a photo of the place where a wire can be run from the passenger interior side of a gen2.1 to the front trunk (from inside the car and from outside the car)? I'd be much appreciative! I'm running the wiring from my newly installed rear storage cabinet speakers to my PCM2.1 amplifier in the front trunk. Thanks!
