Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Porsche was using wings before anybody else on production vehicles, surely they were using wings before kids were slapping them onto Hondas and Toyotas.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

i know i'm a biased observer but i envy the turbos only for their enhanced acceleration. i don't like the boy racer look that the fixed spoiler gives. i thought the old whale tails on prior models were even worse. does anyone disagree?!

Yes.
I love the old whale tails, a Porsche trademark. Porsche was using wings before anybody else on production vehicles, surely they were using wings before kids were slapping them onto Hondas and Toyotas. It is ashame that people see a spoiler/wing on a Porsche and they immediatly assume "rice". Porsche spoilers serve a purpose other than looks, that can not be said for the wings on the back of your average Honda. It is a matter of personal choice, just like the widebody decision.
The 996 C4S is (in my oh so very humble opinion) the best looking Porsche ever produced. I also prefer the C4S over the Turbo as well. My ultimate Porsche would be a C4S in Seal Gray/Black leather, silver center console, small arctic silver package, crests in headrests, power seats, X-51 powerkit, supple seats, red belts to match calipers..
imho, john murray is an genius!

the fact that we have identical tastes is strictly coincidental!

Yes! Totally!
I think my 01 C4 w/aerokit looks much nicer than the Turbo or the C4S, acknowledging that the C4S w/aerokit would likely outshine mine.
If I were to trade up to the C4S I would order it with the 01 Aerokit, I really don't care for the looks of the C4S' turbo nose.
IMHO my 02 AS C4S, lowered, sports exhaust is a stunning, sensual, exotic creation. The performance is exhilerating.............****, gotta go...that feelings coming over me...I have to relieve myself.
(Go for a drive , you perverts)
Agree with you about the sleek look of the C4S.
The side intakes I don't mind, but I do prefer the rear-end of the C4S, without the large external rear wing.
However, I think the Turbo with spoiler raised probably looks better than the C4S with spoiler "deployed".
Taking the whole package into consideration (i.e., power AND looks), I'd still take the turbo
Don't care for the X51...Don't like the way those power curves compare with the base 911.
TX 911
Whaletail? Question of taste, but unquestionably efficient for reducing lift. I, like FF, like it, and have always had them on my 911s. But I always liked the the slimmer ones (like the '73 Carrera RS ducktail, the original 930 whaletail - which did not yet neet to be raised for the intercooler, the Carrera 3.2 whaletail, and last, but not least, the Carrera 993RS whaletail
)
I like the C4s's smooth look better then the TT with it's fussy side intakes. They really need to find a better looking, more integrated intake before they do anything else to the TT. I might be in the minority but I do like the whale tailed 911's perticularly if they look anything like the 993RS which is my all time favorite 993 barring the TT..

the rs spoiler is imo the best integrated spoiler that porsche has ever fit on a 911 body because it doesn't disrupt the lines like a whailtail.
does anyone know what real effect any of these wings have on high speed driving in a way that can be measured and compared? i suspect that below 120 mph the effects are minimal but i have no real data. perhaps viken can enlighten us? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">
Ignacio,
In Paul Frere's book:
The x axis is speed in meters per second (1 meter per second = 2.2 mph) and the y axis is Kiloponds (=2.2 pounds)
As you can see already around 80 mph the effect of the spoiler is evident.
OK, I might be one of the few C4S owners who (although I truly love my car) lusts after a TT. The looks are very appealing to me as it represents pure performance. The C4S, as beautiful as it it, is still a compromise between all out performance and a semi-daily driver (at least for me).
