I increased the Bass and Treble, for both the radio and the CD - they have independent settings - made sure that the Surround Sound was on, for what it's worth, and made sure the fade was set so that there was sound coming from the back and also made sure that it was in the auto speed sound mode.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Has anyone selected their favorite options from the Bose settings?

POST 2Original post

Just what I thought, everyone is listening to the exhaust and engine sounds and not the Bose . It has a bunch of settings to choose from but everytime I drive I turn it off so have not perfected the sound choices at all.

POST 3Original post

I messed with mine and got it pretty nice, but my attention is still more focused on the music in the engine. One thing I think could have been improved upon is the 'chicklet' type buttons on the radio/CD, and why didn't they mark those two center buttons with a color or something? Try to find the fastforward or reverse button when your driving. I am getting use to it, but I think those two should be marked so they stand out. Russ

POST 4Original post

I agree with your comments on the buttons. I notice it's the only item the mags are also finding falt with the Cayman . I have been test driving tha Cayman every chance I can at the dealer. I have not touched the radio. I almost which I did not get the Bose upgrade. I'm not sure it will get much use. In addition I didn't realize the subtakes space in the pasanger foot well.

POST 5Original post

I increased the Bass and Treble, for both the radio and the CD - they have independent settings - made sure that the Surround Sound was on, for what it's worth, and made sure the fade was set so that there was sound coming from the back and also made sure that it was in the auto speed sound mode. I did this while sitting in the garage, with no engine running, trying to be totally focused on the sound system. I would not recommend trying to drive and adjusting the sound system at the same time. Not only is the engine distracting but you need to watch the screen while listening to the sound to understand what adjustments you want. Again, you will need to do this two times, once for the radio and once for the CD player.

POST 6Original post

Yes I agree with mpollard, and I think the Bose is worth the extra bucks if you like to enjoy music sometimes. As far as losing room on the passenger side the sub woofer is not a problem at all. Once you get the settings all together the system does sound really nice. Russ

POST 7Original post

I adjusted the Bose while my wife drove. Set surround sound to HIGH and find myself adjusting treble & bass on each CD. Like mpollard, I too set the fader to give some drive from the rear speakers which I find a bit weak. My fader is set to -8 on the rears the front sound is still a bit much. Are others finding this as well?

POST 8Original post

cool...i didn t know there was a sub with the bose package although i did notice that the bass is loud but not that tight. set mine to +2 and it is almost too much. I havent had a chance to put any cd's in the changer yet. anyone know if it will play mp3 files or burned cd's? I made the mistake of trying to play an mp3 disc in my saab several years ago and it messed up the player, had to get it serviced. im a music fan.....but right now the sweetest music to me is the whine of that 3.4 L.

POST 9Original post

The space the sub takes up is really no problem as you can't reach your foot over there when your driving. It won't be a problem for the passenger as they will be busy holding on while they yell for you to slow down.

POST 10Original post

after going through this thread i went out into the garage and explored the stereo in more detail. filled up the changer with different styles of music and started tinkering. the bass settings tend to be much more sloppy in the radio mode. i cant really go past +2 listening to the classic rock station without feeling like my left leg is going to vibrate right off. totally different story in cd mode. +7 bass still sounds crisp playing back everything from zeppelin to ABBA. i like the treble pretty much maxed out in cd and fm mode. surround on high is a must, and because this is optimized for digital media it is best appreciated with cd's. i have noticed that the ap (audio pilot) function is very obviously working, while driving around town, much clearer than a similar option in my late audi. all in all the cdr24 is fairly easy to use and pretty basic compared to many oem and aftermarket systems. a quick read through the manual and just about anyone should be able to navigate through the controls without any trouble at all. my 2 cents.

POST 11Original post

RR, I have burned all my CD's from my Itunes MP3 files. Works perfectly! Russ

POST 12Original post

Russk you are able to play MP3 music off of your CD's in the changer? I was under the impression you had to have the PCM option to be able to do that or do you havePCM option.

POST 13Original post

Interesting thread, guys. I have to add that I've kept all settings on '0' with surround on high. While always playing CD's I've not needed to tweak these settings at all. However, I've noticed that the bass is a little strong on a few tracks. So, IOW, if you really don't want to play with the settings, I believe that you can be very pleased with the standard setting. You don't need to change them in order to get great sound.

POST 14Original post

agreed KMan-Went.....some of us just cant leave well enough alone though.../fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/shades_smile.gif

POST 15Original post

Like me, Russ probably burned an Audio CD rather than a CD-ROM, in which case the format used for burning was the conventional audio CD format, rather than the MP3 file format on a CD-ROM. And this does work great. The downside is that you can put fewer tracks on an Audio CD than MP3 trackson a CD-ROM. If you have a CD changer you could have 7 Audio CDs available so that would be like 120 tracks. Not bad, but nothing compared to the number of tunes you can storeon a recent generation iPod. Plus, there is more work involved. Personally, I just have a short play list of killer tunes that changes every six months so one Audio CD works for me. I have not done any long distance driving lately so the one Audio CD is enough music for the one hourdriving periods and then there are numerous radio stations to choose from when I tire of the audio CD.In the Cayman , however, I find that all music pales in comparison to the live symphony emanating from the back seat. But, then I find that my driving experience is also entirely different in the Cayman , much more engaging. For this reason I tend to limit my driving in the Cayman when I can be totally focused on this experience. Maybe this will change when the novelty wears off?

POST 16Original post

I agree in all the test drives the radio was more of a distraction - always turned it off.

POST 17Original post

FWIW, I just tried an mp3 disk in the CD changer: doesn't work. The changer doesn't recognize the disk at all. Ruby

POST 18Original post

The PCM option plays mp3 discs so you can get up to circa 10 albums worth on a single CD. I decided not to go for the cd multichanger on this basisand convinced myself to shell out the extra money to go for the PCM instead. So I saved £ 350 only to spend £ 1800 on the PCM . Mad or what ? /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/stupid.gif I know mp3's don't offer the same quality but even with the bose system it should be difficult to tell the difference in car.

POST 19Original post

mpollard, You are correct, I am using TDK Music CD-R's and having no problems. The sound quality is really good. Russ

POST 20Original post

Redrocket, Since your Cayman S is Red, you may appreciate this musical gem:

POST 24Original post

I have gone a completely different way on adjustment. First, I think there is too much mid bass boom. Second, I don't like the surround mode as it distorts many of the sounds. Third, the rear speakers aren't just week, they also suck. It seems they are the source of the mid bass boom and lack of midrange clarity. So I currently have surround off and the fader set at plus 7 (toward the front). I turned treble to minus 1 or 2and bass to plus 2. I now have clearer midrange, no bass boom with a great deep bass, and just enough from the rear to fill out the sound without muddying it.

POST 25Original post

Someone said recently that the rear speakers detract from the sound quality. I agree! A faded them out today and things got much better. More defined bass, less mud in the mid range, and cleaner highs. Just better.
