Checked FAQS, SEARCH in both general and this forum but did not come up with a similar problem. Any guidance is appreciated. Have an '06 CS with Bose/ Nav/PCM. Since I bought it a few months ago and set the local radio stations, when turned to 99.9(rock) seems the Cayman prefers the oldies and will flip after a few seconds to 106.1. After a while it will revisit rock at 99.9 for a few seconds then go back to 106.1. Does this either with manual dialing or by using set buttons. Dealer who has it now says this is a common problem (he sees it alot and indeed just this AM on a 911) and there may be no fix
Says he will submit an inquiry to Porsche. Anyone have a similar experience or fix? (We don't have a big selection of stations around here so that Navtv sirius is looking real promising)
:thanks: Doc
Well I certainly wouldn't buy the "no fix" answer. Fix=replace in my book. It's obviously defective.
Pull the fuse, I think it is the D9 one, start the car, wait, turn it off, replace the fuse and try again or disconnect the battery and wait 10 minutes and reconnect or take it to another dealer and insist on a replacement. Best of luck but the car has good taste...
A CROCK THAT HATES ROCK? Sorry i had to go there:cheers:
There is a setting called RDBS I think which causes the radio to automatically switch stations when it receives a certain signal. I believe it is supposed to be for emergency purposes and is often misused. I had that problem when I first got my PCM and haven't had it in the two years since I disabled the function.
edit ....

Just got back from the dealer. In addition to the radio glitch I had them fix/balance a bent wheel that occurred at another dealership prior to sale. Wow, it may be all psych. but what a difference in tracking. Anyway, found out some info that may be valuable to anyone experiencing per- Porsche Advanced Technical Information-"Radio jumps from station to station on FM". Apparently Porsche radios tune to the radio station signal by Program Identifier (PI) code instead of actual frequency. PI code is sent out as part of the RBDS data that allows us to see station ID, artist name and song title. Some companies own more than one station and to save money they send out the same code for multiple channels. Our radios then get confused and flip back and forth. Per the tech sheet, this has been going on since 2003
The dealers are supposed to send a "Tech-Line Assistance Request" and PCNA will contact the stations to "try" to resolve the issue. I'm sure these radio moguls will immediately respond and purchase new equipment just to placate us high zoot Porsche drivers :hilarious: So now you know. Hmmm... let's see, what was that number for Sirius Satellite Radio? :taunt:
PS: This occurs with CDR 23/24 & PCM 2.0/2.1
PPS: Have a copy of Tech Info sheet if anyone needs it. It tells how to check by pushing "1" and "0" simultaneously and hold them til "Service" appears. Then push "Man" then "1". First 4 digits are the PI code. Turn the rotary to the offending stations. If the PI's are the same...that's your problem.
Wow, you learn something new everyday. I guess this is one more benefit of living in the remote NM country side. Not many of those stations around...
We should add this to the FAQ ...
Good idea. Want to write it up anyone?
Once again German assumption: "Alles in Ordung, no radio station will share its RBDS code. Achtung!" No honest, hardworking European engineer could imagine this kind of problem where system is not functioning according to specs.
As a side note in early -90's I actually designed pagers for MBS (an another FM side carrier standard only for US market) system and was exposed to US FM market to certain degree. Very interesting people in that business, I can tell.
rsfdoc, depending on your location in Florida, XM might be a better reception option.

Thoughts On Cayman Satellite Radio
Thanks for the heads up, Ispain. But, have Sirius on a '07 Dodge MSRT8 (hmmmm<<cough-cough>> sirius+bluetooth. Hear that Dr. Porsche?) and have few problems with dropout except when on a "canopy" road (lots of trees up here). Besides, researching a self install with a Navtv Sirius unit/Tooki and can save by getting an add-on to my present contract.
