When looking at the lower door speaker on a Bose system, it looks like the speaker leads/clips aren't connected to anything. I put my ear to it but only hear a low rumble which could be coming from the neighboring speaker.
Is there a speaker in there or did somebody take them out before I bought it ? Sound quality seems OK but I have nothing to compare it to.
TIA
There are several speakers in the doors. See
this FAQ
. It's likely you are listening to the 20cm woofer, which doesn't make much more than low frequency sounds.
While I knew it is supposed to be the low-frequency speaker, it appears as though the speaker wire clips aren't connected to any speaker terminals and just hanging in the middle of an empty space where a speaker should be. However, after looking at the FAQ photos closely, it appears as though that's the way it's supposed to look. I am so used to speakers being flush with the speaker grill, filling the full diameter of the speaker hole, and the wires connected behind (out of sight) the speaker. I guess this speaker is mounted away from the grill and is connected via front terminal connections. I wonder why ? Maybe so that it can be isolated from any vibration-inducing parts (e.g. door panel) ? Hmmm...
Like I said, it sounds good, especially after the sub mod. and a steady diet of digital XM.
In any case, thanks for the reply
No problem. Any time.
Just for you I ran outside and ripped my door panel off. Here's a little x-ray view of the door.
Click it to zoom in. Does this help?
Is there a write up on how to remove the door panels as well as the rear panel that house the rear speakers? Are any special clips needed to install aftermarket speakers?
Also, what size are they?

Damn GB, you are too bad a*#!!!
Fort Felker, I love you in a manly way.... I was searching for these articles for hours, never came across them.
Thanks!!!!
I would be careful replacing speakers on a Bose sound system. Bose uses signal processing technology that helps make a "mediocre" but "power-capable" speaker sound good. A full range conventional speaker, when subjected to the signal processing, might be very exaggerated in the high and low frequencies. Think of the mighty Bose 901 system - 9 speakers each 4.5 inches in diameter with a sound range and power rating almost unheard of. But turn off the signally processing EQ ...
