Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

I know the general recommendation is to use the nano/flash drive models for sports, running, dropping it on the ground, etc but I wondered if anyone had experienced any problems with using the hard drive classic in the cayman, which isn't the smoothest ride on the planet

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

will the hard drive of the ipod classic be damaged by driving vibration? I know the general recommendation is to use the nano/flash drive models for sports, running, dropping it on the ground, etc but I wondered if anyone had experienced any problems with using the hard drive classic in the cayman, which isn't the smoothest ride on the planet

POST 2Original post

I've never had any issues, or ever notice anybody on here complain about that in the few years I've been closely monitoring the electronics forum.

POST 3Original post

The vibration from the car shouldn't matter too much. I've had an iPod specifically for my car for over a year. It still works just fine. Remember that when you plan a continuous set of songs, the iPod will buffer the next 1, 2, or 3 in memory and let the hard drive spin down. It is vibration of the hard drive when spinning that causes damage. The shock resistance on the latest ipod classic hard drives is: Shock resistance: Operating 4,900 m/s(2) (500G, 2ms) Non-operating 14,700 m/s(2) (1,500G, 1ms) I'd doubt that you would hit Gs like that from vibrations in the car.

POST 5Original post

where did you get those force statistics!?! are those "newtons?" I bought the classic (the one with the hard drive,) loaded some music, and went for a 120 mi. drive --it's ok so far thanks for the info

POST 6Original post

I have an iPod on a ProClip/Ram combination mount and I have had no problem what so ever...I live in the Tri-State area of NY-NJ-Conn. and some of our roads are the worse...

POST 7Original post

mine's loose in the glove box--I was thinking about putting in a piece of foam, for it to sit on

POST 8Original post
