Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi folks, Since I took delivery of my 02 Carrera, I have noticed that the car has "issues" starting up when cold, e.g. in the morning. Now, I don't like in a cold climate (NV), but when I turn the car on when cold, 3 out of 5 times it does not idle up above 1k RPM and it jus sits there at around 700 RPM stuttering like hell. When I touch the gas pedal, it sounds like its backfiring a bit or it just dies alltogether. Usually turning the car off and then on again fixes the problem immediately. I relayed this info to my Porsche dealer & mechanic, but the (so far) have been unable to figure out what's wrong. Any other 02 owners have run into this problem and have a possible solution for me? Danke! elfer

POST 2Original post

Mine jumps right to around 1200 to 1300 rpm when cold however you still get a bit of"sputtering" until warm. A bit tempermental I guess.

POST 3Original post

There were some posts a few months ago by some people having similar cold start problems. My '02 ran roughly for about the first minute when starting cold. I switched to a different gas and that improved it. I went from Texaco to Chevron (92 octane both). You might try that out.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hm....that's interesting....the gas I use is usually 90 or 91 octane...you guys think I should try 92 gas and see if this could help? elfer

POST 5Original post

The car was designed to run on 93 octane for maximum performance. I'd try changing the gas.

POST 6Original post

i had the same problem with my '02 C4S when i got it in April. Dealer had an ecu fix, reprogrammed the fuel curves somehow. COrrected it. Ask you r dealer or another one...

POST 8Original post

Did yall see my post here???? http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=001919

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

urbanski, thanks a lot for your reply. My dealer also did some reprogramming schtuff, but that didn't fix it...perhaps we all just have to wait for the new "fix" from Porsche. I will, however, try a 92octane gas...I will report back if it fixed anything. elfer

POST 12Original post

hehe, at least you didn't say "thanks for your 3 replies" LOL. Sorry about that. Yeah, I always use 93 gas, different brands and the like. My dealer also reprogrammed me, no help. Seems until whenever Porsche has another "reprogram" out, we're stuck.
