Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Fellow Boxsters, I'm looking to purchase an aftermarket alarm system. My reason for this is my original key lights up when I push the buttons but does nothing, I also have a spare key and the light flashes even faster but also does nothing. So I'm wondering if it's worth it to install one or just get the dealership to program another key! Has anyone installed an aftermarket alarm or keyless entry? Really could use your help fellow members?

POST 2Original post

It might cost you as much to have a decent aftermarket alarm installed as it would to buy a new key head and have it programmed.

POST 3Original post

Very easy and cheap to do, my car had a damaged keyfob and I followed the instructions on the post here, look for " 3rd Party Keyless Entry DIY (Why Not?) " mine works great. what it does is that you take an affordable simple alarm and install it in tandem with the existing car central system and that's it.

POST 4Original post

I did the same as Stelan, follow that thread, get a chepo ebay system for like $20 and fit it in an hour, easy. However mine didn't have a factory alarm or keyless entry, so it was an easy choice for me. If it did I'd probably go the 'proper' route and get that working again instead, then you don't have an extra alarm fob to carry around and you don't have extra aftermarket Chinese stuff spliced in to go wrong later... but it's gonna cost you a lot more I'd guess.

POST 7Original post

If your immobilizer is working, just add the keyless entry. It's really simple http://986forum.com/forums/diy-project-guides/56773-3rd-party-keyless-entry-diy-why-not.html
