Suggestion
The run from Kinlockewe to Durness is truly mindbending but it's actually the scenery and sense of emptimess that impresses the most.

Suggestion
In terms of style, quality of filmography and (surely the litmus test) a tendency to re-watch, I find some of the Evo films to be great.

Suggestion
For me the roads in the Alps are entirely different and a whole other level and if the EVO test had been undertaken there then I bet the final pecking order would not have been the same.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Great Video. Thank you for pointing us towards it.
It's nice to spend 30 min or so watching great cars in great scenery.
I thought the commentary was very informative, the way they 'dismissed' the AMG and Lambo, for example, shows that it's not about lap times and
POWER

Did they not do the more In depth thing in the magazine which you had to pay for and was not the free video just a lovely thing to watch for the scenery and cars! Just saying
It's not that complicated - the Evora is an old car now, hence the reheated meal analogy. I drove one the other day and the chassis is great. Personally I felt that the interior of the 400 wasn't up to scratch for a £72k car. It had a lot going for it, so am surprised it disappointed that much in the group though. I didn't have enough time in the car to pass any more detailed comments....
The magazine article does provide more detail, along with equally flowery journalism as displayed in the video. I enjoyed watching the video, despite the apparent need to elevate the piece to "art" from the creators. The photography was fantastic, it has to be said. As a complete video, the piece would have worked better if we could have seen the faces of the journos, as Evo seems to want to make it as much about the personalities as the cars. I suppose they didn't have the budget / time to finish it.
With moose here, load of guff at the start saying how great ECOTY is because, surprise surprise, they get to drive some great cars in a lovely location, precious little insight into why a car did or didn't make the grade - just a 30 second summary on pluses and minuses per car would have sufficed
Anyway I read that in the magazine, and the video looked pretty

So we have for COTY 2015;
Evo - GT4
Autocar(?) - 488
Road&Track(?) - Corvette (but no RS/McL to compete against, but GT4 present)
Any others?
Motor trend Mercedes Amg gt bizarrely , finished low down in most uk tests and honestly I was very unimpressed when I drove one,and I'm a big amg fan.
Thanks for posting. A bit ott on the introduction re writers ,evo and all the emotional clap trap etc but have to hand it to them the filming and photography is outstanding. I think it would have been improved if they maybe had Chris Harris and Tiff Needell on the panel IMO but i doubt the outcome would have been any different - the GT4 just looked totally dialled into those twists, bumps and crests in a way none of the other supercars quite managed all looking overly stiff and not really flowing with the roads - the SV looked like it was going to snap its suspension over some of those bumps lol. The hatchbacks looked like a hoot on those roads!
Money no object I wonder how many of those journos would really pick a GT4 over an SV, LT or GTB?!
Remided me of a launch video for a new Apple product...lots of beautiful shots and words....but no real substance. Guess you buy the mag for the in-depth stuff....

Never underestimate the effect of the venue on these groups tests (IMO).
We did a 4 day session in the Highlands this year and although I was there in 2012, I was surprised at just how straight and untechnical the roads are (not to mention rough and ragged).
The run from Kinlockewe to Durness is truly mindbending but it's actually the scenery and sense of emptimess that impresses the most. Yes agree would have been an even bigger win for the GT4 !

Great video for me with the right sort of tonality. These driving holidays do tend to approach soemthing bordering a religious experience and the film's emotion did convey that to some extent. Last thing we want is a dry autistic analysis with lots of middle aged, painfully unglamourous talking heads popping up every few seconds.

The Alps may possibly provide more of a challenge but in the real world of UK typical driving roads Scotlands probably as good as it gets.....well apart from Yorkshires finest that is.....

You asked why the 'car with the best chassis' didn't do better,I was merely pointing out the reason which they gave.
It's a 20 minute video which is meant to accompany the original article. If the y did a video as detailed as the article and broadcast for free as they do,they would not sell many mags.
I think it's meant to be treated as a companion to the magazine article, hence the lack of detail.
That's my take on it anyway.
Would wholeheartedly disgree with that. I'd say the guys working for EVO know how to drive far better than any of us. If anything, the fact they get carried away with the driving aspect means that disregard a lot real-world factors that people appreciate; which is why you actually see quite a lot of Audi RS models on the road despite them being routinely panned by the motoring press for being dull as ditchwater.
There is a difference between being a good driver and appreciating a driver's car. Lewis "The Tit" Hamilton can drive quite fast, but I doubt he would know a great car from a fast car (because he is a tit).

LOL, I can't stand him.
I read an article the other day, saying that he may even be asked to leave the team. He doesn't play a team game, and Merc are sick of his childish attitude. If they did let him go, it would certainly knock a couple of steps out of his ladder. I think his attitude this season has been appalling.
Maldonado in a super fast Merc would make for much more interesting viewing.

Sure would, high speed first lap crashes
The video is beautifully shot and is more of a background insight into ECOTY I think rather than being about providing the full review of the cars and how they came to decisions. They will want money spent on the magazine for that.
I think it was a nice overview of the setting, cars and journos.
A bit like the TopGear/Clarkson christmas special DVDs, I would probably buy a full 'film/documentary' version of the ECOTY. Lots of nice scenery, background of the test and full reviews of the cars. 1-1.5hrs would be long enough. I know that would probably be a big step up in planning and production, but if it was shot like the promo video it would be good.
I have to say I enjoyed this vid far more than the other (also, coincidentally, Marino-featurng) film that I had been really looking forward to - the Chris Harris 918 vs P1 vs LaF film. Was really disappointed by the latter, added nothing on any of the 3 that hadn't been better presnted already (IMHO; I'm certain others will have loved it).
Although - I'm not sure why they even bothered mentioning Dario had turned up - if there was no subsequent chat from him.
Top guy as well - spent ages standing next to his CGT chatting away to everyone at the recent Councours at Holyrood Palace.
I maybe had less of an issue with the lack of any deep insight in the Evo film, being a subscriber and thus having read the ECOTY article. Some years that article is better than others (as it's written in a different style / by a different core journo each year). So I prob enjoyed the article iteslf less this year than in others, because I don't particularly enjoy Dan Prosser's journalistic style (in prose or on film). In that sense I prefet Bovingdon, Meaden or Harris.
In terms of style, quality of filmography and (surely the litmus test) a tendency to re-watch, I find some of the Evo films to be great. Especially like the 918 vs P1 on track, and their Analogue Supercars piece (F1, CGT etc).

The gt4 would excel even more in the alps I would imagine, its size and cornering ability make it so much less intimidating than a lot of the other cars in that test.

I think that is doing that road a bit of a disservice. Admittedly there are one or two stretches that are not great, but equally there are many others that are simply mind-blowing in the right car when your heads in the right place. Without doubt had two of my best ever driving experiences on parts of that section this year. Another being on the single-track from Tongue to Lairg. Simply epic.
Really enjoyed the video. Always nice to see places you've been and had good memories of. Helps put you in the car.
Regards the depth of review in the video, I think it is just enough to not make it boring and justify you digging out the copy that actually helped pay for the free video and getting the really detailed stuff. I think the written word and video go hand-in-hand beautifully.
