Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Thanks for that, as before I'll take a look at the backing plate, no doubt if it needs replacing all the bolts etc will be corroded 🤬

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys Had car jacked up on drivers side for about 4 hours, dropped off jacks was going for a spin but unusual noise from passenger side front wheel, sounds like if you put stones in a hub cap, rattley, guessing it's the sheet metal plate on the hub, any other options or ideas welcome. Cheers SORTED, I always tell my customers to check simple things first, couple of pieces of grit were rattling around between the disc and disc guard, Thanks for everyone's input.

POST 2Original post

Simple stuff first, are bolts torqued down correctly flat against hub in order

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yep they are torqued down but the noise is on the passenger side which I didn't take off!

POST 4Original post

presume not grumbly like a bearing? could have gone if it was on the way out and you canted the car right over - possibly

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No it's more of a catching or rattle type of sound not a grinding one

POST 6Original post

Maybe piece of gravel between disk and inner plate?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'll have to jack it up tomorrow remove wheel and look for anything obvious :x

POST 8Original post

I'd guess same as you, disc backing plate. They rot at the mere sight of water so if it was a bit rough and you've bent or knocked it, it could be loose. They rot around the bolt heads and then flap about. I'm about to order 4 tomorrow... depending on price. You can put a washer over to clamp everything back together, if you want to reuse the ones that are on.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Marky Thanks for that, as before I'll take a look at the backing plate, no doubt if it needs replacing all the bolts etc will be corroded 🤬

POST 10Original post

Actually the bolts are normally pretty good. Its just the metal being really thin on the shield itself. This is most likely your issue.
