Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I desnorked last weekend and noticed absolutely no difference whatsoever.

POST 1Original post

Hi All, Just picked up my 987.2 base 2.9L Cayman and loving it so far. I do have to say it is very quiet compared to my previous 981 base with K&N filters & FVD exhaust. Already have a SOUL catback coming my way but I am just as big a fan of induction noise as I am exhaust noise so looking for intake options to give me more of an induction roar. Strictly looking for a sound enhancement here, I have no illusions that I will pick up any more power. So looking for the communities opinion on the best route to take from folks who have perhaps gone down a similar path. I was looking at the BGB/Fabspeed intake but I don't like the idea of hacking up the oem airbox to install and giving up the option of reverting back to stock. Bit of sticker shock too if I'm honest for what appears to be a cone filter and some silicone tubing. Question in the title is would the combo of de-snorking and adding the EVOMS intake give me a noticeable increase in intake noise or not really? Also, if there are other filter upgrades out there that produce more noise than EVOMS I am all ears. Lastly, anyone every leave the airbox lid off for increased noise or is that just asking for brutal heatsoak? Thanks all

POST 2Original post

I have similar goals (more intake noise). The YouTube videos of the BGB/Fabspeed intake sound superb, although there are complaints that it's too loud. It is hideously expensive too. There must be a straight-forward DIY equivalent which is an intermediate between stock and BGB. Why does the airbox have to be destroyed? Is that the only way to remove it from the engine compartment?

POST 3Original post

I have a BMC air filter, IPD plenum & GT3 throttle body. I removed the entire airbox cover and wrapped it in screen to keep big things out. No discernible difference from closed airbox. Yes, I know it is "warm air" from the engine bay. Still, it's a ton more air than gets in via the stock intake plate. So, I highly doubt the desnork makes any change at all.

POST 4Original post

When you say no discernible difference I assume you are referring to power loss with the warm air coming in. How about the difference in sound? Was there a noticeable increase in intake noise with the deletion of the air box lid?

POST 5Original post

Small update. So I desnorked last weekend and noticed absolutely no difference whatsoever. Really disappointed. Just installed Boxster Spyder side vents yesterday and put the restricter plate back on because I figured what’s the point in leaving it off if there is no benefit and living with the risk, small as it may be, that water could get into the intake. So long story short desnorking my 2.9L 987.2 was pointless and a waste of time.

Thanks for the feedback. I wonder if you would get a little more intake noise from the stock airbox/filter by just removing some of the sound insulation from around the engine cover? The BGB/Fabspeed air intake mod looks really messy and expensive to me.
