0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

Suggestion

An additional plus for this splitter is if it does get damaged only that portion needs to be replaced thus saving on replacement costs.

That said the molds are almost complete and will be making a black FRP splitter this weekend for a test fit.

Suggestion

I would really like to test fit the splitter and dive planes on a car instead of just the bare bumper before I go ahead with the carbon fiber parts.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Time to get back to work on the 987 platform. Late last year I took one of my splitters which I have been producing for 6 years and decided to try something different. I cut the splitter into 3 sections, made flanges on the ends so it could be joined together with fasteners and installed on the car. My reasoning. As many of you know one of the issues is shipping. Although the splitters weigh next to nothing the size of the box is the killer. We get charged by dimensional weight which usually ends up around 90 lbs for a piece which weighs less than 10 lbs in the box. With this sectional splitter shipping costs have been dramatically reduced. As an example, from me to Florida the original splitter cost almost a hundred dollars for shipping with UPS. Now it's twenty nine (29.00) yes that's right twenty nine dollars.I have sold hundreds of the original one piece splitter and the down force gained from the factory piece was substantial. This new sectional splitter is dimensionally the same as the original with joints. It is also somewhat more subtle than most of my designs....I must be getting old. Now it's time to convert this to the 987s and I'm starting with the Boxster as I have not done anything for these cars. The splitter will be available in carbon fiber only...you can paint to color match if you choose. Here's a couple of pictures of the original and the sectional. I hope to have pictures of it on a car in the near future.

POST 2Original post

Great idea! Please let me know when this splitter is available for the 987.2 Cayman .

POST 3Original post

Also interested in 987.2 Cayman . Would love to see a picture of it on the car.

POST 4Original post

I'll be interested in the 987.1 version... although I'm still a bit undecided on what I'm doing with the front end. Hopefully figured out in the next few months.

POST 5Original post

The master pattern is complete. Will start to sand and polish tomorrow morning and hopefully have molds by next week. This new sectional splitter will be carbon fiber but the pricing will remain as inexpensive as all my other parts. An additional plus for this splitter is if it does get damaged only that portion needs to be replaced thus saving on replacement costs. I'm trying to decide if I should do dive planes for this car as well....any thoughts anyone. As soon as this one is complete I will be starting on the 987 Caymans , both Gen 1 and 2. I have a gen 2 bumper but need the factory plastic corner pieces to design the splitter. For the gen 1 I need a car or a bumper. I also have a 981 Cayman bumper to be in line for this new splitter.

POST 6Original post

I'm still in the process of getting this splitter completed. Lots of orders on my other parts keep getting in the way of play time in developing new parts. I'm not complaining...lol. That said the molds are almost complete and will be making a black FRP splitter this weekend for a test fit. The carbon fiber version will be available soon. I did manage to complete the dive planes molds and have two sets (one in black frp the other in carbon fiber) with no home to go to. If anyone is interested in either of these they are going at half price, $87.50 for black and $150.00 for the carbon fiber. Shipping is $20.00 in North America.

POST 7Original post

The splitter is complete in black gel coat / frp. I would really like to test fit the splitter and dive planes on a car instead of just the bare bumper before I go ahead with the carbon fiber parts. If there is anyone within a few hours drive of Vancouver, B.C. who would like a FREE splitter and dive planes please contact me. Either I drive to you or you drive to me. I would like to install the parts and take pictures. Price for these pieces would be $525.00 so here's your chance to get some aero for FREE. Thanks in advance for anyone interested in helping me out.
