I wanted to use an Orange SIM card but was told it wouldn't work because Orange use a different frequency to all other UK service providers.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have bought a 996 but have no manual for the PCM. I cannot get the phone to find a network despite using a "good" sim card that works in my pocket phone. Is there any security/set-up procedure, or anyone through some light on it. The dealer wants me to bring the car back but time and distance preclude this at present.

POST 2Original post

Hi Howard. For what its worth, is your's an Orange SIM Card? I wanted to use an Orange SIM card but was told it wouldn't work because Orange use a different frequency to all other UK service providers. I signed up with Vodafone and the phone works fine. Once live, I didn't need to refer to the manual - its all pretty straightforward. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have tried both vodaphone and bt sim cards, so it looks as though there is a fault - not a good start to porsche ownership!

POST 4Original post

hi Howard, the PCM manual is twice as thick as the car manual ! Assuming you have a 'credit card' holder for the SIM card, then a Vodafone SIM should work. The menu system is pretty self explanatory. Only other point to note is that PCM has an 'operating system' that is loaded from the SatNav CD, you should at least have this CD . cheers

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info. I have a UK cd and the satnav etc works OK. The bt and vodaphone sim cards are read and the phone book items can be selected but no network is found (except for milliseconds, before it says "emergency only")and the signal scale reads 0 to 1 bar and back to 0 - to my simple mind it appears the aerial is not connected, could it be that simple?
