(I met him at the Aston bash) is also on the look out for a system, but we both share concern's with CAT mod's & warranty, which I am checking on.

I have to confess to being a little jumpy about messing with cats (this also takes the prices of the system up to between £2.5k & £5k) have asked Porsche OPC for comment on warranty if I replace standard cats, will let you know their comment!!

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
26 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Grant, I have seen quite a few non Porsche ones advertised for the TT,but don't have any first hand experience myself on a TT.
I suggest you look at
www.rennlist.com
go to the 996TT forum, this is global but mostly US based, the guys on there seem to put a different sports exhuast on thier TT's every week.Although it seems to happen in the US they source a lot of parts from Europe.
Grant,
Please post your findings. As you know from the other Saturday, I'm looking for this too. In fact, if you come across anything near me that needs a closer look, let me know and I'll check it out for the both of us.
Cheers
Rob
Hi "Chopper" (I hope that nickname refers to something with rotorblades!!) update 1, had a quick look on Rennlist (as per clubsport/Domster) during lunch, this is going to be a difficult one !!! The favourite seems to be the Ruf system (at $5000 US ouch !!) although they mentioned Fabspeed, Gemballa,Tubi, Europipe & MSracing systems. Much talk of resonance whilst cruising in higher gear's (which neither of us would want) on all but the RUF.I will try the US funcar & Turbo site's when I get a chance, but hope we get some Uk feedback. I also saw an article on a G-Force in GT magazine, so will look at that. These things are never straight forward !!!!
Manu at Scuderia Systems is a PHer and can get RUF systems. He promises to beat any price ever, including that of welded together mild steel bean cans. Maybe.
Go to the Ferrari forum and you'll soon find Manu!
Grant the guys at
www.design911.com
based in the UK always have an ad in Porker post for their 996TT / GT2 sports exhausts complete with 100cell cats for £1995.
I would be inclined to go for the 100 cell cats as that will be the best help for bhp gains and if the sports exhaust wrecks your existing cats, you can revert the whole thing back to standard in the event of any warranty claims.
after all £2k is just pocket money to you TT guys ?
C'mon Paul, you know the old saying goes "look after the pennies" etc etc.,
TIGHT is my middle name that's how I afford a TT !!!
Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look.
g
Paul there's TIGHT & there's MIS-GUIDED (!!!) I've told you B4 it's a slippery slope, I said the same as you a couple of years back, it's just a matter of time B4 a TT sneeks onto your drive, I can tell.
DON'T RESIST IT ...you know it makes sense !!!!!
Anyway The C2 facelift is a FABULOUS car, enjoy, just as a matter of interest do you have the sports suspension fitted, I've had one with & one without, wondered what you had gone for & why ???
Anyway better stop rambling B4 the men in white coats arrive !!!
The exhaust I had put on mine is a Techart Racing system, and it's transformed the sound from Dyson dual cyclone to an air cooled Porsche sound with a metallic edge. I *really* like it, though if anything it could do with being a bit louder.
It's not a cheap option, despite being supplied from Scuderia Systems, but you get what you pay for generally, and it's important enough to me to want to get it right.
Grant, I had driven earlier 996 with sports & regular suspension on both 17 & 18" wheels.
In the end I went for sports chassis which is 10mm lower as fitted to C4S,this along with 18" carrera wheels (lightish) & Pirelii p-zero rosso.I am very happy with the handling & ride of the car.I found the sports suspension too hard as in 964 RS hard,I met a couple of owners who wished they hadn't ordered it.That and potential re sale helped me make my decision.
As much as I admire & respect the TT I really don't know if I want one,I have been a passenger in a couple and get to drive a good friends C4 996 on occasion,I really do enjoy the characteristics of the 2wd cars.
My car is in for a main dealer service next week,I may try to get a ride in their 996TT,maybe the extra performance will just win me over.
CLUBSPORT.... glad you went for the sports chassis, I specified standard suspension on my 2nd C2 because the sports chassis on my 1st 996 got a little tiring on my daily B road route. But I regretted it, the car was ok up to 8 10ths but it got all floaty after that, the 10mm lower chassis is the best choice, the same as on the Turbo infact !! I agree with you about the standard C4 but the Turbo does need 4WD, although it feels 2WD. Anyway ther will be all sorts of issues when you eventually look for your next car, like new 400BHP 997 models !!! Porsche ownership..slippery slope !!
456GT.. Thanks for the tip,can I ask a few questions
1/ did you change your cats as well
2/ do you get booming in the cabin at certain revs.
3/what does it sound like at lower revs (a previous sport's exhaust I had made the Porker sound like a tractor at low revs although it sounded great at the top end.
4/ Have you heard the Tubi & RUF systems
5/ did it affect your warranty & performance.
Phew that was like 20 questions !!!
+++ thanks for the Hayward & Scott tip I will have a look.
456/Kevin thanks for the reply & your advice.Presumably you just changed the rear silencers, do you mind me asking what that cost. Manu say's you need to change the CAT's as well in order to balance the system. I also have to look at the G-Force & Hayward & Scott systems that have been mentioned, although the Tubi still looks good.
Cheers
Kevin, you are a gentleman, thanks for the further information. I may well take you up on the "sound test" once I have all my info. together, "Chopper"
(I met him at the Aston bash) is also on the look out for a system, but we both share concern's with CAT mod's & warranty, which I am checking on. Thanks again.

Guys have you seen the ad in this months Porker post mag for a seconhand exhaust?
"996 turbo sports exhaust with race cats by cargraphic with BMC air filter, dyno proven +35bhp with power graphs,6 months use only, amazing sound £850 ono"
If you don't have the mag e-mail me for the phone number..
it may be worth a call to find out why the guy is selling it.
I phoned today about a 2nd hand fabspeed for a C2,it was sold, but the guy felt it was too boomy, which was a great help and may save me some money,,or make me spend more?
sorry Rich, am right in the middle of our mega busy period, so sports exhausts have gone on the back burner !! But the guy with the S/H system didn't phone back & my local OPC said that two Turbo owners had their sports exhaust systems removed because they found them too loud !!One of them was a Cargraphic system. I followed a guy in an MX5 with a sports exhaust the other day & it sounded bloody awful, far too loud & maxpower. I want the car to sound louder on the inside but not like a Maxpower tractor from the outside,I intend to take my time on this one, to be sure.
You won't get any more with a sports exhaust, there is a good chance you will devalue the car a little as you have modified it,you would certainly be appealing to a smaller target audience.
That is why you tend to find a few sports exhaust advertised, the guys revert to standard spec to sell.I don't think a used sports system would generally be worth any more than 1/2 the purchase price.they are not about money they are about NOISE!!!
Advice please chaps, has anybody put a sports exhaust on their 996TT ? I love this car but would like a little bit more ear lobe stimulation at higher revs, extra power isn't the issue, that's one thing this car doesn't need !!! I don't want to mess with the CATS, as I have heard that the racing CATS only last a short while. Used to have a Cargraphic system on a C2 but that was a little too loud, fronts of houses ripping & all that stuff !!The Porsche system would be ideal (it even has a switch to turn the sound down when you feel fragile!!) but they don't do one for the Turbo, unless anybody know's different. Any idea's guy's ?????
