I read online that some shops put the tail lights in an oven @ 200 Degrees for 15 Minutes for a gloss look. But I was not confortable with that idea thinking my next meal cooked in that same oven might poisen me so I used 3 Clear Coats. That was the hardest part .On my test runs the clear paint Dripped everytime so I used a heat lamp (It was 40 Out)that day and did really thin coats 12" away and had sucess.I have some better Pics and will post tonight ok

Just removed my tail lights Taped off the reverse lights and used some VHT Nightshades.Very Interesting stuff .Each Coat you put on is about another 25% darker so if you do not want a total black you dont have to.I Did 3 light coats followed by 3 coats of Clear Gloss and kept it under a heat lamp for 1/2 hour or so .You can still see a little Red so maybe this is a happy medium for (Police) and (Safety) me not wanting to do a total black out.I think This is a great option for people that do not want to spend a lot of $$$ .although I will probally get the all Red tail lights in the future I just did not have the $$ right now.Highly Reccomended ...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had some fun Tinting My Rear Tail Lights This weekend and it cost me less tha $20.00 . I left the Reverse light Un touched .My car Is Basalt Black so I peronally thought this was the way to go for me anyway. And It looks GREAT!! Not bad at all. I would definitely skip it for other colors but black and blue.
I would love to see a higher rez shot of the tail lights to see who good of the job you did taping it off. I am not confident in my taping skills, so I probably would find someone who airbrushes, to do this for me.
Hi Res Pics tonight
The taping Off was easier than I thought and was actually very surprised that there was NO leakage whatsoever .I used that Blue tape you get at home depot its like masking tape and Just Bent the tape in the Curve of the Reverse light as I went along .For the corners I just used scissores and trimed some little pieces of tape .If I can do it anybody can trust me .I Ushally mess up every mod I try myself. I have a basalt black 07 CS. I went with the all red OEM tails. I have in my possession a painted to match cayman s badge and headlight washers from bumperplugs. They did a totally killer job matching the paint. I am changing the silver exhaust rim to ext color also. I have Boothe Black pearl tips now but I plan to buy a Borla exhaust and send the rear sections/tips off to be black chrome or Nickel plated prior to installation. I have the red tails and the Boothe tips installed so far. I broke my ankle and cannot complete the deal for 4-5 more weeks. The red tails and the Boothe tips made a heck of a difference. I will post a pic of the black badge as soon as I can do it. Your's looks great.

Sorry to hear about your ankle. OUCH !!
Well I would like to have the all RED OEM rear tail lights but the $$$ Seems a little much (over $300.00) .Would REALLY like to have the Clear Engine Cover as well. I work in the Mortgage Business ...It Aint like it use to be...
Taillights look great and I think they would look good on my Red car - I have a Black emblem and painted the exhaust trim piece Black as well.
In regards to powdercoating the exhaust tips, suggest you go with ceramic coating, which will hold up better due to the heat. Bill Bento of Fuzion Performance Coatings [phone removed]) ([email removed]) has done them for members and Champion Motorsports, etc. - great work at a great price.
Might I suggest some Philips SilverVision turn signal bulbs? They really help with the egg yolk that shows through the rear. Unlike the backyard shop painted signals from xenonmods, they maintain their original brightness. I bought some "stealth" bulbs and nobody can see your turn signal during the daytime, which is dangerous.
Also, some people have the "silver star" lamps which are also a joke. Because instead of the yellow showing through from the stock bulb, now it is blue, defeating the whole purpose. I wasted my money after reading so many posts from people who loved them on this forum.
With the Philips silvervision bulbs, the light output is maintained for safety reasons, while essentially eliminating the amber from showing through. I think it will be the perfect finishing touch to your mod. They only cost around $25 from

online. They sometimes list them on ebay too for around $8 less.
I will be happy to post some pictures if you want to make sure.
I have to admit, your mod looks VERY nice, too bad my CS is not black!

No The Exterier .. I used VHT (Nightshades)spray on mine with several Clear coats .I think schwabe did his with a traditional window tint product . Both on the Exterier nothing interier ..
Sure will do. The film for the lights is not window film, it is much thicker. Just stop by your window tinting place and have them show it to you. Should have pics by tomorrow evening.
That looks superb!!!!
I have just called my local window tinter in Reading.
I asked them for an estimate to do my rear lights and to get my windows smoked too.
Windows - £600
Light tint - "dunno mate, can't help, what you talkin' about?" Basically too much effort for them.
Will see if the local ICE store does such a thing.
Has to be reversable as the car is leased for 3yrs.
Black on black with black windows and black lights.
Black Rims too?
Photoshop me thinks...

Seems that you can colour them to various colours. Not sure how legal this would be.
Found this article but I think this relates the bulb colour itself.

Anyone know these people?
I watched the video and it looks a pretty messy way to do this.
Not to mention the use of a razorblade to finish the job.
I had mine done at Jon's Tinting in Long Island last year. This is the second car I've done this way and have been very happy with the results. Jon's uses paint so you wax and buff the tail lights (and side markers) the same as the rest of the painted surfaces on the car. My CS is Atlas Gray in color which is pretty close to black. I think the Seal Gray colors are nicely accented too with the tinted lens.
Thanks for posting the pix - the film doesn't seem to affect the illumination much. The tint effect seems to be most dramatic in full sunlight (like your first post #14). I think I'm going to check with my local window tint shop and see if it's legal here.
I just used this paint
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005257R0O/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
to paint the clear reverse lenses on my 07 Cayman. The stuff is amazing! From the comments I read on amazon, it seems it doesn't fade, either. But I think I'm still going to put a few clear coats over it.
I used the same stuff. Worked perfectly! I think I applied five coats. But each coat is light. If you go heavy the paint will run. There are some youtube videos where the people apply the paint then, to get a glossier finish, buff it out with various degrees of cutting compound. I didn't go that far, just applied the five coats, let it dry, and reinstalled the tail lights. In my opinion there's plenty of gloss without rubbing/buffing out the paint.
Haha I was wondering why the pictures weren't working on this thread then I see it was originally from 2008 and was revived in 2017, and again now in 2018. A ten year old thread revival... that's one of the worst I've seen.
