A new fully electric two seater sports car will be launched which will be the basis of the one-make racing series worldwide replacing the Carrera Cup and Supercup.

As a little run around fine, but sports cars are all about noise, emotion and tactility (for me anyway)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Crystal ball time and Just wondering what the latest thinking is as to the power train for the next generation 718 series cars? If say they are not ICE powered, do people think there will actual even be an electric GT4 or Spyder down the line?

POST 2Original post

IMHO, the Mission R shows the future plan for Porsche. The 718 Boxsters and Caymans will continue as long as possible with ICE then they will be discontinued. The 911 will also stay ICE until it is also discontinued, after the 718 series I suspect. The 911 will stay the halo ICE car for us dinosaurs and luddites until Porsche cannot sell ICE cars at all. A new fully electric two seater sports car will be launched which will be the basis of the one-make racing series worldwide replacing the Carrera Cup and Supercup. It will be the future for Porsche sports cars.

POST 4Original post

Not sure, given that the 718 is essentially a facelift of the 981 and has been around for 8-9 years already. I think it may soldier on as-is until it's killed off in 2023. I think the GT4RS and Spyder RS will be the swansong cars as it's the only reason I ican see why Porsche would produce them.

POST 5Original post

Autocar have intimated that the ICE 718 and forthcoming EV car will be sold alongside each other in the hope that people will grow to accept the idea , bit like the Fiat 500 , what I can say is that as im never never ever buying an electric car that wont be happening with me

POST 6Original post

Porsche have invested significantly in synthetic fuels, setting up a plant in Chile. F1 will soon be deciding whether to go down this route and if they do Porsche will be entering as an engine supplier. There is still hope.

POST 7Original post

It’s going to be electric apparently https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a37692178/2025-p... They were discussing this on the Podcast “Spikes Car Radio” either last week or the week before.

Who knows but if it’s correct you would think that is a distinct possibility.

POST 10Original post

I'm hearing (from my OPC) full electric range (possibly with the exception of GT/Spyder models) for the Cayster from 2024. Not sure if it's any more likely to be true out here than what is said in the UK or not though ...

POST 11Original post

finmac said: So, if that happens, reckon there will be a facelift ICE 718 a la Macan? Porsche have been pretty upfront about the fact that the cayman platform will remain unchanged until the electrified version appears. I was surprised they put the 4.0 in it. It won’t get a new interior or any major changes now till the electric versions appear.

Bit too Audi TT esq for my tastes

POST 16Original post

I suspect there will be a radical new design language to it - and probably take some cues from the Taycan and this new Mission E thing.

POST 17Original post

Latest issue of Car mag on the same topic, if the new model looks anything like that I will not be changing my 981 Cayman GTS any time soon.

POST 19Original post

No way in the next 50 years will the world be ready for full electric cars, expect hybrids to be the only answer .

POST 20Original post

Some new renders of how it might look. True, who really knows, but it is interesting to see. Less harsh than the one I posted above.

POST 22Original post

having driven an all electric car, i would have no trouble owning an electric cayman. in fact, i hope there will be a big push to electrify older cars like my '07. the maintenance free reliability would be a godsend. Edited by hueyhoolihan on Sunday 24th October 02:31

POST 24Original post

If Porsche master the synthetic fuel to zero emissions then maybe they will be allowed a dispensation to carry on the ICE in limited numbers. I read something, that they are lobbying to see if its a possibility.

Boxster25 said: Doubt the local fuel garages will survive long term, maybe a few specialist ones, or maybe we have to go OPC to fill up at £20 / litre. Sure Porsche would find a way. I think they will survive and supply the hydrogen we're all going to need once EVs have died a death in the short term. Hydrogen is becoming cheaper and easier to produce and while EV manufacturers stumble at the charging time hurdle hydrogen is attracting more investment. EVs are interesting due to cheap fuelling (on a home charge) but problems charging when not at home or if you don't have a drive/garage will see their ultimate demise. So I'd ignore a 718EV and wait for the 718FCV or maybe even the 718NF - NF for nuclear fusion. It's coming... Mind you, I'll be dead before then!
