This picture is probably the worst ad I've ever seen from an automobile company.
Leading evidence: 'worst ad i've ever seen' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'worst ad i've ever seen' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use number' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If we can find out the number assigned to the Cayenne we can begin a campaign to drop the name Cayenne and just use the number.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You could actually get large pets sucked up into those air intakes just driving by on the road. Is that safe?
That car kind of reminds me of a neighbour we had when I was a kid. She had the biggest nostrils ever, and it always made me a little sick when having to look up at her (remember, I was a kid). Oh yeah, and she looked alot like Maggie Thatcher as well.....enough said.
Oh no... That it looks even more afuw with all those fine sportscars...
And no matter how many times they repeat it, that stylized Slovakian VW does NOT belong on the same grid with those great Porsches on the photo!
There I was in the paddock of the ALMS race at VIR last weekend when a Golf GTI rolls by. In a flash, I see the design for the rear of the cayenne. OOh boy, from the front like a sneeze, from the side like a Sante Fe and from the rear like a Golf.
The best we can hope for is that Porsche goes back to F1 in 2004 like Autoweek has suggested and we can forget all about this particular interlude.

have to disagree. nothing comes close to the ugly space that the Asstek occupies...
hmm, Rothmanns 959 five cars back? nice...
I don't know what Porsche was guessing the response to this pic would be
I think it reinforced my earlier opinion that the cayenne has no place in Porsche's line-up. What a waste of technological resources!! The improvments they could have made on the rest of the line-up and their absence from racing is a heavy price to pay for this sorry looking VW refugee
i hate all suv's but if the pepper allows porsche to remain independent it's well worth it. btw--does anyone disagree it will be the biggest selling porsche within 2 years?

See, there you go! The Cayenne's qualified five rows ahead of the 959. Progress!
Great post M758.
This picture is probably the worst ad I've ever seen from an automobile company. Why they put this SUV in with all of those very rare, exotic, gantastic Porsches is beyone me.
If they wanted to make an impression they should have put the SUV in front of the Porsche Tractor, their aircraft engine and the German Tiger Tank that Porsche helped design/build (whatever). That would have been a more focused ad.

Don,
GREAT IDEA!!
Imagine this.
Picture Tiger tank with Rothman's 959 Dakar winner & Cayenne
Caption = "What do you get when you mix power and speed? Introducting the Porsche Cayenne!"
Heck that would be great ad! I would even think it would be cool.....
Now for the photoshop work to make it a happen!
OK, so it helps keep Porsche solvent. But it also almost makes me embarrassed of owning Porsche ....kinda like that relative you don't want to admit shares the same bloodline.
Ugh!
Edward
My first car was a Volvo 480 Turbo (two door coup), Porsche had made the turbo-conversion on a Renault engine placed in a small front wheel drive Volvo.
I cant help it, but that old Volvo is much more Porsche to me than the Cayenne... yuck.

In the not so long ago, when asked what kind of car you owned and you answered "Porsche", nothing more needed to be said. Everybody except the completely illiterate knew what it meant. Totally different had you answered BMW or MB. Truck, sedan, sportscar? Porsche seems to be heading the way of the other German marques, unfortunately.
I am considering answering "Carrera " when asked the question, but it doesn't quite have the same ring as the old "Porsche" would have.
Palting...here's a way out. Porsche assigns a number to all Porsches they manufacture. If we can find out the number assigned to the Cayenne we can begin a campaign to drop the name Cayenne and just use the number. You know a Carrera really is a 996 kind of thing. Can anyone find out the number assigned to the Cayenne?

13 or 666!?
At least that's how bad I think it is.
I agree with you guys, now you need to tell that your car is 911, I don't think Carrera works so well (at least if you're talking to Porsche nut).
911 works always (even with people who don't know much about Porsches).
I myself say something like this: "...yep, it's 911 (factorys project number is, and Porsche nut, lik me, call it 993), it's the last aircooled Porsche, I love it, it's really not a car to me etc. and I never mention anything about this newcoming truck!
Once did to a friend who knows little or nothing about Porsches and he immediately started wondering why in earth they're building an SUV? Made me feel even worse.
And Edward, well put, that's how I feel.
Excuse the re-post from last week, but seeing the picture makes me want to vent again...
And here Herr chairman looked like he'd be a tougher mark...
Last weeks whole "we won't sign zee accounting statements" is fine - even understandable. But, his latest quotes
(and staged picture of the P-fish with legendary Porsche endurance cars)
in AutoWeek gets me going...
With regard to LeMans (and therefore endurance racing)...

"It's not really competitive anymore - it's really just VW with several different brands and some smaller brands"

Meanwhile Porsche might be thinking of dumping huge sums into F1 engines? Like F1 hasn't been just a little dominated by Ferrari over the past three years
Hey don't get me wrong - racing is racing. Hell I'm not even clicking past NASCAR these days, but the hypocrisy of his statement is stifling. Porsche has sold out it's racing program to build the
ugly P-fish
.
If VW is dominating endurance racing - then go after VW! If the P-fish is good enough to pose infront of the ledgends of Stuttgart, why is it that only VW will race theirs? Oh, right guess they'll end up dominating that venue too - so why bother. This only reenforces the position that the P-fish is looking like the
ultimate poser Porsche
.
They are so smug that they did the right thing and that it'll sell. Now they look like they are on the "we've always been about racing" kick...um, but not elite endurance racing - that's just a bunch of VWs...please, so much for vaunted German logic.
To me Porsche means endurance racing and overall wins - anything else is...well just anything else.
Have a great and safe Labor Day weekend...
The responses here are hysterical. I've had a good laugh reading them.
I agree with you: the Cayenne is an awful looking opinion IMHO, and its sad (but inevitable I assume) to see it put next to such historical greats.
Regards.
