This does happen with em but only when I am using a blank CD I have burned with my own music.
Leading evidence: 'Use blank cd i have burned' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'bunch cheeper' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust voume and it doesn't work' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
It is really ashame that we have to deal with these problems when an after market radio is probably a bunch cheeper to buy and is more dependable!

All they will do is replace the head unit if it happens at the dealer....
Replace head unit, you will still have this random problem

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This is the 3rd time this has happened to me. I turned my car on and it says "CDS" then no sound from the radio. I adjust the voume and it doesn't work. Then I try turining it on and off. After turning it turns back on, it displays "STOP" and no other button works. What's wrong with this? Help
Mine is doing the same thing. It seems to happen when I am listening to a CD and then turn the car off and when I get back in and start the car. The only thing I can get it to do is eject CD, then I hit the FM button. Then you can put the CD back in and it will play fine. The other day mine wouldn't play a CD when I first put it in. All it said was Track 1. This is just another example of the sub-par POS sound system Porsche chose to put in a 60K+ car. Also, the horrible radio reception drives me insane! Some people want to defend Porsche and say "It's a driver's car, not worried about the radio, I just listen to the sound of the motor". I love to ride along listening to the sound of the engine, but sometimes I like to jam along back roads listening to a great CD!
I expect to have a radio that works and is of decent quality from a 60K+ car. No excuse for this POS sound system especially when I paid extra for it!
Mine does it with store bought CD's that are brand new without a mark on them. I don't know if it is a laser problem or a software problem with the head unit. I was just waiting til it got worse or til I could get it to do it at will, before I took it to the dealer.
Ask the dealer to re-flash the computer
My CS radio stopped working and all other radio/cd functions.
Took it to the dealer and they had a fix. They re-flashed the on-board chip with a new software.
WOW....I thought it was just me that was having this problem. Sometimes when going from CD to the radio I have to push the radio button several times to ge it to work. Also if I am close to a radio broadcast station the sound is great and if not the audio and music quality sucks. I know that I can get an external whip antenna, but that would mess up the looks of the car.
I e-mailed my dealer to see if this is a problem and they answered back that they have not heard of anything.
Perhaps more of us need to voice this issue to our dealers.:argue:
This is not a new problem. The CD player often froze up on my old Boxster S. It would happen if I turned off the ignition and the CD was still playing. (If I turned of the radio first and then turned off the ignition everything was fine.) I would pull the fuse, put it back in and the CD/Radio would work fine after that. I haven't had that problem with the Cayman . . . . . yet.
WOW I thought mine was just a unique case as well, when I have a cd in while turning on the car it says stop too. then it will eject on its own or turn off. I have to push fm then cd a few times. also if i am switching tracks it freezes then just automatically goes to fm and ejects the cd.
Cayman W
has a point when others say "
It's a driver's car, not worried about the radio
"! Well the car performes very well and is more than I expected however, I do like to drive and listen to "state of the art" FM while going down the road. Seems like something so basic is being sluffed off which shouldn't be. A $200 radio/cd player sounds better and is more reliable than this one that is in a very expensive car.
From the posts it seems like the US owners are the only ones that care about a reliable/quality sound system. Maybe the car should have no radio/CD at all if that is the feeling from the performance folks.
I could live with it if I could change out the radio for one of choice but that can't happen.
What's next? What can we do about it?
Help Porsche!
My wife also agrees with yours. She likes music once in a while but she really does like the sound of the car running. I am not having a problem with the CD Player as much as the crappy radio issue so that is a pluss. I want to trade for an 08 and get her one also for christmas if the radio issue is fixed. I like my 07 but just want a few different options. For instance, my Garman
GPS
is much better than the Porsche
GPS
and it upgrades yearly.
This happened to me while driving off in a hurry yesterday. My first thought was that I was driving too fast and the police had some kind of electronic device to make me pull over :hilarious:
I just changed the
battery
and a few bad fuses so my second thought wast that I would need to reset the codes. A minute later it started up.
This has happened to me several times, infact, when I pull the CD out and the car is turned off it sounds like it's still trying to eject the CD until I put a different CD in. I play burned CDs all the time and haven't had any issues with the CD changer and burned CDs, just the head unit. I took it to have it looked at and guess what? Worked perfectly for the tech. I'm hoping to video tape it so I can show them.
This has been a long standing problem on the first gen non-nav units. All they will do is replace the head unit if it happens at the dealer.... guess what, this is a bug that still has not been resolved. Cause if they change the head unit, you will still have this random problem.
Mine does this quite often with burned CDs. Eject, turn off the radio completely, turn back on is a kludge but works for me.
Sadly I think the Blose (TM) firmware just gets a bad read and rather then retry, goes into a stop mode requiring a power cycle. Though it is strange that it usually doesn't STOP while the car is being driven over bumpy roads. Anyway...
Given that the whole thing sounds terrible, and that reception is poor, well... I guess the only impressive thing is that people think "Wow,
Bose
? It must be good!"
One of the worst sounding/performing radios ever, and unfortunately expensive to replace.
I've been having this infrequently happen (playing CDs of any type) on and off for the past 3+ years of ownership, and it hasn't become any worse.
What I do is eject the CD, turn off the radio, then reinsert the CD. It may take a couple times, but this usually works.
It is really ashame that we have to deal with these problems when an after market radio is probably a bunch cheeper to buy and is more dependable!
I have been thinking about upgrading to a 2010.....wonder if these problems have been attended to?
Well as in my previous post a few lines down, I have a 2010 and a slightly different issue. The CD has never not worked, nor the AUX or the bluetooth, but occasionally I can't tune in to an AM or FM station and get sound. The station shows, and on stations that show the song, etc, that shows on the display, but I get no sound, immediately
plug
in a
iPod
or use a CD and works fine. Back to radio: no sound.
Thing is, every time I go to the dealer it works normally. Either fix itself, or get worse so it is broken. 38,000 miles of this and it will finally go for good, and be on my dime.
