Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm starting to think I'm cursed. Parked in leftfield as usual(noone around me for 200ft) and ran into a local mall foodcourt to get some lunch. Came back out not 20 minutes later to find that some inbred tool had found it necessary to go out of his way and carve two 3 ft long scratches down to the metal in the passenger door. I'm so angry, i'm actually glad I didnt catch this guy in the act because there's no question I would be in jail right now. I really hope there's a special place in hell reserved for @ssholes that like to do this to nice cars. So the car goes back into the shop next week for its third repaint in its very short life. The best part is all these repairs are outta my pocket b/c I have a $1000 deductible. This has to be killing my resale too. Sigh, sorry for the waste of bandwidth, I just had to vent...

POST 2Original post

Darn that really blows. If I had caught the guy myself I be doing the same thing-mame the bastard-cut off his hands!!!. Regards. Mike

POST 3Original post

Oh, honestly, you wouldd't have done anything even if you HAD seen him keying it.

[quote]Originally posted by Moogle: Oh, honestly, you wouldd't have done anything even if you HAD seen him keying it.

At a time in my life when a red Honda Prelude Si was a LOT of money, I walked out of a diner just in time to see a Chevy Malibu parallel park where there was no more space. He dinged my door as he opened his, then leaned on his door as it sat on my car as he was getting out, dinged it again as he leaned back inside and his fat behind pushed his door. I kicked his door shut with my foot, grabbed his suitcase and threw it on the road, then basically stood there daring him to do something. Lucky for him (and me) that he just stood there mouth agape. I'm with CjN and Mike. Lucky we are not there should our car ever get keyed.

POST 6Original post

I agree with you guys. I would probably do some physical harm to someone if I saw them dinging or scratching my car on purpose. I have an '02 Dodge Durango R/T that was parked in front of my office on the street and I watched as a woman in a large Explorer blabbed on her cell phone and backed up at a wrong angle and hit my truck. If I hadn't been standing there she would have driven off. When I asked her for her information, she said she was having a personal crisis and couldn't be bothered and just to give her my phone number and she would call me when she had a chance. I told her that I could be bothered to call the police if she didn't give me her info, but I still felt like ringing her neck. I have vowed to spend the extra $5 in the future to always park my TT in a garage as this is the second time I have been hit on the street. The first time was when I got my 96 cab (absolutely perfect show condition car) and parked it in front of my place and some stupid woman making a five point turn to get a spot across the street backed right into it. Again, if I hadn't been nearby she would have driven off. Her only comment was "gee thats a fancy car, haven't seen one of those before". Strangely enough, both of these women had AAA insurance. Maybe there is some sort of conspiracy going on.

POST 7Original post

oops, meant 95 cab. I need to figure out how to edit my messages to make corrections.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies guys...The worst part is like Ibanez said most people dont think twice about damaging other peoples property (read: cars), whether accidentaly or on purpose. It's no big deal to them b/c they rarely get caught and the punishment is minimal if they do. Meanwhile if someone were to walk up to someones house and started smashing windows, you'd probably get shot.

POST 9Original post

I think I said this the last time you posted the keying. "What a bummer" Seriously, do you think somebody has it in for you? Sounds like you're cursed....Hope it doesn't happen again.

POST 10Original post

CjN, sorry to hear about it, the best thing is park away from the door of the mall, then avoid to park your p-car besides SUV,s ,big family cars, and big mum's car... . If the dealer do a good work you'will not see anything. don't worry... By my side if i see someone do that i kill him!

POST 11Original post

That really sucks. I have a few horror stories of my own if it makes you feel any better. A few years ago when I lived in Minneapolis I parked my old Targa at the Mall of America, at the end of a row of course. I came out to find someone had rubbed some sort of apple cinnamon ice cream ALL over the hood wind screen and top. Last winter my wife and I drove my new cab to Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island for our ten year anniversery and to renew our vows. We hit a snowstorm going over the mountains, white knuckle driving all the way, but we made it w/out making even a scratch in Blue Velvet (thank God for all wheel drive and PSM). The hotel had valet parking, however I choose to park myself (reason: valet parking ruined the syncros on my father-in-law's 911) at the end of a row again. We had a wonderful time and the next morning I brought the car up to load the bags. The bell boy says "Looks like you got a ding there." I look and someone had backed into it and caused about a 10" by 6" DENT right over the front tire. I wanted to cry and kill someone all at once. No note, I had to file a worthless report with the RCMP, almost $2000.00 worth of damage. The snow melted, we made it to Victoria in under three hours and the repair came out great, but it put a HUGE damper on what was otherwise a magical trip.

POST 12Original post

I wonder if this is just foreign exotics this happens to. Do people with Vettes get the same treatment? Just wondering if it's a "non-American thing? Atany rate, it sucks!

POST 13Original post

your deductible should not apply in a case of vandalism as long as you get a police report. i know this from experience i think these problems happen to everyone. we porsche drivers just care more deeply! remember the words of george carlin " your average person is pretty stupid and the other half are even dumber!" maybe cynical but completely accurate!

POST 14Original post

CjN, I'm terrible sorry to hear your story. Its exactly incidents like this that cause the rest of us fear when we drive our beauties out and park them in malls, parking lots, etc. The dollar cost of repair is one thing. But the sight of seeing our babies scratched is gut wrenching as we all agree, given the contributors' stories. Why people bang other indivdials' cars, and then drive off without remorse is something that I have never been able to understand. In the Road Rules handbook you read to obtain your license, it clearly states that if you damage a car and the owner is not around, you should leave a note with your information so that the owner can contact you to settle the issue. When individuals maliciously key or damage other people's car, I get really ticked off. It is tremendously juvenile and a sad reflection of the morality of our society. BTW, parking the car in the garage mitigates, but does not completely reduce, the possibility of damage. I had my 996 valet-parked at the Four Seasons a fortnight ago, and when the car was brought up, the side mirror had been clearly scratched -- turns out the valet guy had taken it too close to another car parked in the garage. What a pain!! I don't forsee these incidents happening less frequently. But I will also not be bound by the senseless acts of a few. I will be careful, but will still enjoy the beauty of my car. Regards.

I wonder if my experience breaks the record for getting a car keyed... Back in '98 we ordered my wife a new Volvo S70. The color we wanted wasn't in stock but they had one on it's way in 2 weeks. Dealership was great and handed us the keys to a brand new black S70 saying drive it until ours got here. We drove fom the dealership to the mall to go see a movie and when we got out there was a 4 foot long keyed scratch down the left side. In less than 4 hours on the road!! Called the dealer, they were fine about it. My other experience was 3 days before I traded in my M-B S430 for my CL500 some idiot keyed the back panel of my car. Fortunately again, the dealer and I had agreed a price for the car already and they were fine about it.

POST 20Original post

A friend of mine a few weeks ago had his targa engine hood scratched deeply. Last week while he was sleeping he heard kids in his garden. Looked out, kids were pouring ammonia smelling white powder and paste over the car. He could see where the kids disappeared to. He called the police, who happened to be around anyway. They went to the house where the kids disappeared. It was 14year old kid living at the house. The police couldnt do anything though because no physical damage had been done. Kids mum was very apologetic.
