Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace regulator, and all is fine' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check level of the transmission fluid' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

First thing to do is check the level of the transmission fluid.

Like you did I started with an oil change but it didn't improve the matter.

Also I will replace the pressure regulator und I am hoping, that this is all.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
i bought a 996 C2 from 1999 two month ago. It drives fine, but after a time of acclimatation , I think something is wrong.
Is the torque converter clutch normal working?
I have made a small video. After 8 seconds I am stopping accelerating. The engine-speed drops round about for 150 RPMs. at last, if I accelerate to 105km/h (~65mph) the RPMs climbs about 200 RPMs, and after I stop accelerating the the rpm drops by about 600 rpm.
Sorry for my english

Thanks Roger
Roger,
Are you saying when you accelerate the RPMs rise but the car feels like it is not moving as fast as it should? If yes, it sounds like your transmission is slipping. First thing to do is check the level of the transmission fluid. Next, you may want to have the fluid and filter changed. Also change the differential fluid.
hmm, it is not like a slipping clutch. I get faster, as the engine speed rises, but if I take my foot away from the throttle, the engine speed falls suddenly for around 150 rpm. Is this normal?
If I kick it, the car runs, without a additional slipping.
Test for fault codes:
If you are having an issue with the torque converter lock-up function it will log a P0740 code, if no P0740 core don't worry about it.
okay, pants off :-P
Yes, I have a stored code P0740. The oil level is normal, and I have a date by my garage for gearbox flushing next week. Also I will replace the pressure regulator und I am hoping, that this is all.
But I read the error codes, because I am was wondering, that the engine speed falls back, a little bit, and over 105km/h something happens.
So would like to know, is this behavior normal, what I have filmed.
Not really,
I have made gearbox flushing (I don't know, is the word right?), but the torque clutch works as before.
I wonder about, that no one said anything about the behavior.
Do you also have this behavior as mine? Was it there from the beginning of ownership?
The Code P0740 is stored, and I am planning to replace the regulator in the spring, wenn the driving season begins.
I have the same behavior and selfdiagnosed a failing torque converter. I will be changing it before the end of the year. I just bought the car this year and didn't realise it was a problem in the beginning but the problem increased in a few months.
Like you did I started with an oil change but it didn't improve the matter. I do also have the code P0740.

They changed the regulator, and all is fine. That is also my plan. Please keep me updated, you are the only one I know, who has this behavior.
Well just got my torque converter from the rebuild shop.
My lockup clutch disc was shot... I have no more info on other parts. But this explained my problem, maybe you could consider this possibility.
I still need to put it back in the car to ensure this solves my issue.
Any news on your side?
not yet, unfortunately.
My garage will renew the regulator in march. The car is registered between march and october, so i can't go to the workshop at the moment.
I will keep you informed ;-)
