This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Although I am traveling and cannot attest to this by checking on my 996, I would be surprised if the explanation/description would be any different, with the exception of the "3" in the VIN representing the 993 marque being replaced with a "6" for the 996 marque.

I guess they usually begin with 0001, but aren't the first numbers factory test cars, etc.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am just wondering how many where produced and what the breakdown was.

POST 2Original post

If you're not in any rush, you might try writing to PCNA. Answer might just be for North America, tho. It's got to be a matter of record somewhere.

POST 3Original post

I would be surprised if it were as cumbersome as writing to Porsche NA. I know on the NSX, it is the last three/four digits of the VIN. Regards.

POST 4Original post

But the sequence numbers start over based on other variables such as coupe, cab, targa, engine type(s) and manufacturing location. The best way to get specific information is from PCNA. See how they helped me with some real specifics on my 94 Speedster (that I still wish I had) Don's favorite Car

POST 5Original post

Robin, who I believe is the webmaster of p-car.com, and who has put together a masterful site, has the following description of the VIN breakdown for the 993 marque: 993 VIN Breakdown Although I am traveling and cannot attest to this by checking on my 996, I would be surprised if the explanation/description would be any different, with the exception of the "3" in the VIN representing the 993 marque being replaced with a "6" for the 996 marque. Regards.

POST 6Original post

Vik, of course you're right about the VIN breakdown (although I recall a post from Bruce Anderson mentioning something different about MY02's), but I thought the question was more about how many actual 996's were produced my model, and you can't find that out w/o knowing the sequence numbers for each model..and I don't think it's available (yet) from anyone but PCNA...especially if you want more specific info like I got on my Speedster. Does anyone on the list have ending numbers for 996 by model? I guess they usually begin with 0001, but aren't the first numbers factory test cars, etc. that aren't necessarily sold?

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
