Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I'm in the middle of replacing the oil filler neck on my '98 996 C2, and think there may be a clip missing off the air filter box. The new filler neck has a small hook-shaped bit on it, right beside the filler cap, but there's nowhere on the air filter box for this to clip under. I was wondering if a bit's snapped off the A/F box, and if this may have contributed to the old filler neck splitting (eg, not enough support?) I'd be grateful if anyone could post a picture showing where / if the hook is supposed to clip onto / under part of the A/F box, Cheers

POST 2Original post

Don't worry nothing is missing. There is no retainer etc for this hook on airbox lid. Typical on the great engineeing nation of Germany, that hook is to hold the filler neck up vertical (clip to nearby ledge/cable etc) during oil fill or out of the way for other service.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks (again and again) for the effort of posting all the photo's - much appreciated. I doubt Magnus Magnusson could have foxed you with your chosen specialised subject! :worship:

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All done - 5 hrs to put a simple thing like that on  Nobody said it took two hours to put an alternator back on... :x Saved another batch of cash to blow in Munich this weekend though, so WTF
