Suggestion

Last time my CS went in for service, they overfilled it, cleaning car I noticed grey specs on my exhaust tips, they looked like ash and when touched would "crumble," took it to my indie, he said if oil is overfilled, oil will get trough.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

Hello, yesterday I was doing some canyon runs with my friend behind me on ca-89 and he said on some of my downshifts a puff of gray/blue smoke would come out of the exhaust. He said it only happened 3-4 times total. The trip was about 50mi. I checked the oil and it was 1 bar below the max so some oil was burnt. I just changed the oil to Driven Dt40 ~500 miles ago. My previous oil looked good, blackstone only said the iron was a little high. Could this be a VOS problem? I already changed to the Motorsport separator 2 months back so I doubt the diaphragm is already shot. No smoke on startup. I also might boroscope the engine to be safe. Could this be a lot of fumes generated by hard driving and it slipped past the VOS? Cylinder scoring? Any other suggestions?

POST 3Original post

My guess is that under G forces you can get some oil past the AOS/VOS. The Motorsports version that you have should really keep it to a minimum. I would just keep an eye on the oil level. If you stop losing oil, I would not worry about it for now.

POST 4Original post

Ok I'm gonna keep an eye on the oil level and see, it just seems peculiar that this could happen even though ive been at the track with the Motorsport aos and had no problems.

POST 5Original post

I thought that too but since the smoke was bluish/grayish instead of black, it made me count out running rich at high altitude

POST 6Original post

Last time my CS went in for service, they overfilled it, cleaning car I noticed grey specs on my exhaust tips, they looked like ash and when touched would "crumble," took it to my indie, he said if oil is overfilled, oil will get trough. Some of the effect of that oil burning in system is ash. He drew out excess oil, everything got back to normal.
