Seems I have a new problem. My driver's door light is out. I thought it was the bulb, but a new one didn't fix the issue (I tested it on the other door to confirm) Multimeter is showing no voltage at the plug.
Anyone else seen something like this? Doesn't appear to be fuse related. Sigh.
The same light is out on my 07, but I haven't tried to change it yet. I used it as an excuse to order a set of LEDs for the interior. If they show up soon, I'll let you know what I find.
I did some more troubleshooting today by testing the latch mechanism.
When the door is closed fully, the windows should rollup slightly and the courtesy light dims off. When opened, the opposite happens. I confirmed my door knows to properly dip up/down the window. But no courtesy light still.
Door panel has to come off now and see where the wires go.
Looks like I can't be of any help. I replaced the bulb and mine is working. I did note that the connector was very loose, but it sounds like you have troubleshooted beyond that already.
Removed the door panel today. The courtesy light wires are routed into the 17 pin plug that gets disconnected when removing the panel. Pin 14 is the +12V and 13 is the ground. I am not seeing +12V at pin 14. Something like .5V instead.
The 17pin plug mates into some kind of ECU box that is mounted underneath the window motor. Does anybody know which ECU box this is?
My guess is the ECU has decided to stop working properly. Seems awfully expensive for a courtesy light repair.
Bumping for an update: I tried to see if the ECU box is separately available. Doesn't seem so. You have to buy it with a window motor. $500. Ouch.
I found a used unit from a parts car for less. The ECU box actually slips off the window motor quite easily (snap fits) Hope it fixes the light. Just need some time to pull the door panel again.
Here's pics of the window motor + door ECU.
To remove the ECU:
cradle the assembly in your two palms - with opposing fingers pry apart the two retaining tabs. One is covered by the part # sticker. You don't need to remove the sticker. Simultaneously push up with your thumbs to slide it out. It should come out easily.
Happy to report a new window motor ecu fixed the problem. Wuhoo.
Further followup : I opened up the faulty ECU. And there's a complex circuit board in there with CPUs. Wow - no wonder it's $500. Nothing looked burned or loose. Can't say I have the expertise to trouble shoot it further.
Just some pics. I tested the replacement ECU before removing the original. I didn't disconnect the battery - no airbags deployed. YMMV.
I have the same problem with my 2010
Cayman
. Looking at fixing this in the spring. Thanks for posting this info and pics.
