Hi guys,
At low speeds my
987.2
seems to be creaking like an old boat at low speeds on the front right side (driving me nuts!😂). After some investigation I think it’s the front lower control arm joint bushing. Was gonna just replace it as never been done before and car is 2012.
Does anyone know when you are torquing up the lower arm and wishbone can these be done while the car is still jacked up ? Or does the final torquing need to be done with the car on the ground with the joints on load of the car? Seems like it would be pretty hard to torque these bolts with the car back on the ground.
Any part recommendations would be welcome to.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
I’m sure they are meant to be torqued with the weight of the car on the wheel as you tighten it, did all 4 corners of my car 18 months ago. My front end was creaking just as you described and when I got the old coffin arm off the left hand side of the car the ball joint was completely shot. I think I carefully lowered my car onto 3 wheels and jacked up the hub of the coffin arm I was torquing to simulate the weight of the car on that wheel then torqued it to the specified amount. I haven’t got a car lift so it was the best I could do, and 18 months later the car drives great and the only annoying sound comes from a loose exhaust heat shield.
Thanks for the quick response ! Do you have to torque figures you used ? Seems that different people have used slightly different figures.
Thanks
Think of blocks of wood under the
tires
. A length of 2x10 cut into squares would work just fine.
Sorry for my ignorance 😬 but does changing the lower control arms mean I need to get the wheels re-aligned ?
Hi All, hope you can help.
I am a newbie to the forum and hope I am in the right place. My Gen 2
Boxster
2.9 was making the same noises and decided to replace the coffin arms etc, but what I noticed was the eyelets on the subframe appear oval.
should they be or has this happened because of faulty coffin arms?
appreciate any help
Cheers
