I also have bought and installed the Toyota software for my wife's Lexus (around $70) - it too works fine and helped track down a problem with her RX350.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I use the
icarsoft
porsche
V2.0. It's $146 on
Amazon
and it does everything I need it to do, codes, oil reset, battery reset, service interval reset, etc. I have a
981
not a 987 so just make sure it works on a 987.
Amazon.com
It works just fine on my 987.1
I use it all the time for troubleshooting switches and relays and such. I don't know how it stacks up against the others, but it's a bargain in my opinion.

I also have the Por2.0 (also using on
987.1
), seems good so far but I think for the price difference I would just spend the extra but on durametric. Depends on just how deep you think you're going to go with DIY diagnosis/repair etc.
Anyone want to buy my Por2.0?
Julian
Foxwell
allows you to clear everything and also code a lot of changes if thats the kind of tool you are looking for.
It's also dirt cheap.
And you can buy extra vehicle makes over and above the free one it comes with

I have had mine for a year and it's far more capable than durametric for a fraction of the cost.

I have an Durametric, an iCarScan, and a
Foxwell NT530
. For the 987 series the
Foxwell
is the winner. it allows for programming modules that support programming and has extensive diagnostics - probably comparable to a
PIWIS
1 (or maybe 2) and is inexpensive and a standalone device that doesn't need anything else to work.
You can get it for around $150 with the
Porsche
software from the
Foxwell
distributor at

(see update below) if you email the sales email and ask for a better price - she dropped the price for me from the one on the website by about $15, and it's shipped from the USA - delivery was 2 days. I have nothing to do with Foxwell except I'm pretty satisfied with this product. The NT530 gets lifetime firmware/software updates (lifetime is not defined that I could find), and is not limited in the number of VIN's it can connect to (like Durametric.) It's had one firmware and one Porsche software update since I've owned mine (about a year.) DO take time to review the "Function List" on their website - that works best if you input the year/model of your Porsche. That will tell you lots about what it can do.
I bought it to enable the "Sport" "Sport-Plus" text/lights on my 987 sport steering wheel (the one with paddles) for the PDK. The dealer couldn't say if they could do it. A shop with a PIWIS wanted $200 to do it. I saved money and ended up owning the tool for less money than that one job would have cost me. No brainer IMHO.
UPDATE - 01/25/23
- the website above no longer is associated with Foxwell. The new official website is
Foxwell Diag | Foxwell Official Site | OBD2 Scanner & Diagnostic Tool
The NT530 is available and there is a 10% discount on your first purchase. There is also a newer touch-screen version that uses the software from the NT530 - the NT710. I have not laid my hands on it yet, but would certainly be interested in seeing how the new interface works, and if the menu structure is any easier to use. If anyone has one - - please write a review for us!
I have a durametric enthusiast I can sell you for the price of the
Foxwell
. For some reason, mine didn't burn a VIN when I have used it on my car so it still has all 3 available.
From what I'm reading, the
Foxwell
is programmed to the vehicle make, not the VIN, so it can be used for multiple cars of the make it is programmed for. Is this correct? They have a bundled package for the
NT530
with two vehicle makes for $225, so I would be able to use it for my
Porsche
as well as the two Fords. Am I correct in this assumption?
Correct.
No vin restriction.
If you own a dozen
Porsche
's the
530
works on them all.
Buying an extra vehicle make is cheap as dirt.
It's capable of coding airbags, lights, and all kinds of stuff durametric can't.
It's nearly a pocket
PIWIS
.

I am another happy
NT530
owner. The interface is a bit clunky, but to be expected for the price and form factor. Add Volvo support for $80USD - that process was purchasing it from their site, then e-mailing them with my
NT530
serial number. A day later I was able to install the Volvo support using the FoxAssist Windows app.
The
Foxwell
sounds good. Do any of you know if it can be used to code the car (
987.1
) to remove the
TPMS
module? That thing is a constant source of problems and I'm the type to check my
tires
often anyway.
From their website:
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Programming:
Allows you to check the tire sensor IDs from the vehicle ECU and to perform TPMS programming and reset after tires sensors are replaced or rotated.
This great information. Thank you guys for responding. I did purchase a
iCarsoft
V1.0 and the code im getting is a P0431 Warm up catalyst efficiency below threshold BANK 2. Im new to car maintenance so can one translate what this means. I installed a Carnewal GT exhaust about 6 weeks ago.
Yes - multiple cars of any supported manufacturer. It would work fine on your
Porsche
and probably your Ford (I have no personal experience with the Ford software.)
Probably not since the "auto" feature requires an entirely different HVAC control module. Perhaps if you changed the module over it might be able to program it to your car - but I have no experience with that - I already have "Auto" HVAC. And I don't think the capabilities table would list that sort of modification.
This is a code that says your downstream 02 sensor is getting bad readings. Officially it is an indication that your 02 sensors or your
catalytic converter
needs to be changed. Bank 2 is the drivers side (see picture) I got this error too and I switched my downstream 02 sensors between banks and nothing happened for a long time. Then I got the error returning on the same bank which would indicate my 02 sensors were fine and my cat was bad. Then it never came back for months.
My personal conclusion with all of this is that the 02 sensors are very sensitive and give false readings from time to time that should be reset and then promptly ignored. Worse case scenario you are polluting just a bit from a slightly faulty emissions system. Personally I don't care about that one bit.
I ordered the
Foxwell
NT 530
and have gotten nothing but the run-around. The software does not run properly, the scanner is nothing different than a regular scanner. I ordered the
Porsche
version, and got a plain scanner. I was hoping to reset my oil change interval with it, but I cannot.
Their foxassist program is not user friendly at all, and will not allow me to update it.
I cannot emphasize enough how frustrated I am with the product and the support (or lack thereof).
Currently waiting to hear about returning for a refund.
Jason
Jason;
Sorry to hear of your problems. When you ran it the first time did you enter your VIN when prompted? Did the software accept the VIN and confirm?
Jason, who did you order it from?
I ordered mine from the
Foxwell
US distributor and have not had any problems getting or upgrading software, or registering the device. They, unfortunately, will not support ones sold by aftermarket vendors (such as are sold on
Amazon
.)
FoxWellTool - Foxwell Diagnostic Tool Authorized Online Shop
<-- that's where to buy one. I had it in 3 days, shipped from the US. Registered it on their website (you have to do this with the scanner hooked to a computer) and downloaded the Porsche software.
I've since downloaded several updates (lifetime free updates) for both the system software and the Porsche software, and you're correct - it really won't do much special without the Porsche software.
I also have bought and installed the Toyota software for my wife's Lexus (around $70) - it too works fine and helped track down a problem with her RX350.
I ordered direct. In fact, as per this discussion; I asked if there was a better price available. They responded negatively. I ordered anyway. A week later, the online price went up by $5 but they were giving a $20 discount!
After switching to a third computer, starting from scratch and lots of frustration, I was able to load the Porsche software and update the unit.
I plugged it into my car, and it appears to be functioning correctly. It found my VIN, no problem.
I tried resetting the oil change interval by clicking on oil change (my car was not indicating one necessary, yet). I think it worked. Is there a way to verify using the NT?
Thanks all for your attention,
Jason
Do any of these tools run on Linux,
MacOS
or iOS? I've been able to avoid Windows and Android completely since I retired (SysAdmin, Windows and Linux). Don't want to re-introduce Windows frustration to my life again.
As I noted - the
Foxwell
doesn't depend on a computer to operate, but it does need one for updating and initial software updates. Updates are done with a program that runs on Windows computers. Perhaps a friend or family member might allow you to install it on their computer? At least once you get the software installed you can use the device without resorting to Windows (or any computer.) Dunno if the
MacOS
Windows emulator would allow the update software to work - it needs access to a USB port to work.
