Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace switch' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check battery, all ok' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Now when they were checking over the car they checked the battery, all ok but they noticed that the rear boot light cable connector was disconnected ?

Really normal charging, and certainly an aggressive fast charge should be done with the battery disconnected (remove the NEGATIVE connection).

Could this light (maybe an issue with it that's why it was disconnected ) be what has drained the battery :?:
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys I went to a PCGB free health check at an OPC the other night a few issues found but all under warranty so no problem :thumb:
But I have come home today and gone to start the car and I had to open it with the key? Bug$er no power at all dead as a parrot
Now when they were checking over the car they checked the battery, all ok but they noticed that the rear boot light cable connector was disconnected ? So they plugged it back in, the light came on, so I just thought that the cable might just have come loose and thought nothing more about it until now?
Could this light (maybe an issue with it that's why it was disconnected ) be what has drained the battery :?:
Also At the opc I bought a Porsche trickle charger one that plugs in to the mains and then to the cigarette socket, will this charge the battery from flat as I have had it plugged in now for 3 hours and still nothing, will it work or am I expecting too much ?
If so please advise
Perhaps the micro-switch on the latch has jammed on (the internals may have failed) leaving the bulb on permanently. It could also be a crimped/strangled wire somewhere shorting. (if it is related to the wiring gremlin you mentioned).
If you are worried the trickle charger won't exceed the bulb/wiring drain (or simply the uphill struggle will take daaaaaays to charge), you can force feed the system with 12v direct. Use the Red Terminal and some jumpers to another car battery.
Now you have energised the car to 12v you can immediately open the lids using the release buttons as normal. Pull the recalcitrant bulb/connector etc and charge as normal. Drop back to OPC for wiring check at your leisure.
See here (scoot down the bottom of thread for 996.2):

The CTEK 3600XS will charge from flat to 80% within 12 hours. You may need to make sure it is in "Winter" mode for max charging rate.
AFAIK all facelift (996.2) have permanent live cigar lighter / 12v sockets. If this isn't the case for some reason the key will need to be in the ignition position to go live. Can you remember if the socket worked without the key in/ignition on?
Thanks GT4 as usual top info :thumb
Didn't have a 12 v battery I could get to with jump leads with out removing from other car so I used the battery charger,
Front boot opened straightaway , rear wouldn't ?
Am I right to disconnect the battery to charge ? I have any way just in case and put it on normal charge instead of fast charge I presume that's right and best for the battery :
A trickle charge is more gentle to the battery (and hence better gor its health).
It's OK to trickle/maintenance charge in situ. Really normal charging, and certainly an aggressive fast charge should be done with the battery disconnected (remove the NEGATIVE connection).
I pressume you have croc clips too then? As you only mentioned the cigar lighter (which CTEK's retail version does without, although it is an optional extra) I thought that may be all the Porsche package comes with.
I guess the charger's small current is not quite enough go snake its way the whole distance from the fuse box to the rear latch and still have enough juice to pop the solenoid.
I had exactly this happen on a 964. A faulty boot light switch meant the boot light stayed on and of course you cant see that that is the case. It was only when cleaning it with the boot just cracked open that I noticed the light on (OPC had not been able to find the fault). Result: every two days a flat battery. Took the bulb out and all was fine. OPC replaced switch on next visit. Take the bulb out for a few days and see what happens, If its ok then get the switch replaced next visit.
