Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

Needing to buy a low Jack preferably aluminum… I have a craftsman 3 ton and it’s low but not enough for either Porsche and I’m tired of driving onto boards…. Any recommendations?? both cars are lowered with side aero

POST 2Original post

I suspect you'll still be driving onto boards. A Cayman is low already, and lowered? If the jack point was right at the door sill you might have a chance, but since the Cayman has the same jack points as a Boxster - they're about 8" in from the sill and there aren't many jacks that aren't getting thicker by 8" from the lifting head. Harbor Freight has a bunch of aluminum jacks, so far - very light use - my experience with them has been OK (still lifts, doesn't leak, several years old).. if you can measure the height right at your sill, and how far in your lift point is - I can see if the one I have would clear.

POST 3Original post

I’ll measure… yes it’s lowered but by no means slammed.. front and side splitters too… the splitters didn’t change the ability to use the existing boards or Jack than before they were installed… it looks like it did but the Jack still slide out I’ve seen those now that you mention it

POST 4Original post

Instead of boards, when applicable, I'll use a spare scissor to lift initially, come in with the floor jack and execute the rest of the lift, replace the scissor at equal height for a safety feature / jack stand. Then when the repair is completed, I'll bring the scissor to a jack point and support the vehicle with it, release the floor jack and gently let her down with the scissor jack.

POST 5Original post

I was looking at those scissors… or a hoist… both cars needs to be lifted and it’s okay I guess… same with coming in and out of the driveway… lord 🤦‍♂️

POST 6Original post

I have to crawl out of the driveway, luckily it's a cul-de-sac. There is a road near my house where the transition from the main artery to the side connector is so dynamic it's palpable in the truck. If you came through there in a Porsche without knowing you'd tear the bumper cover right off, I still can't believe the road is designed that way. I'm too old now, otherwise I'd put a two post lift in the garage and stop farting around.

POST 7Original post

Ya, I spent almost 25yrs tweaking my own cars… I don’t do nearly as much as I used too.. thankfully my buddy is starting a new shop… lord have mercy. I live on a lake and the road is super narrow..so I can get out with two boards getting back in I have to ride the curb with the front tire, once that’s up I can make the hard turn and the otherside lifts up… even with that Joe Toth splitter… nail bitter..and I getting the diffuser to finish it off… little hesitate…

POST 8Original post

I bought a 2 ton Pittsburgh heavy duty floor jack at Harbor Freight . It’s a low profile high lift (2-5/8” to 23-3/4”) with a 16” reach at the low profile portion. It’s a steel monster of a floor jack and very heavy and easily reaches the jack points on my 981CS with PASM which is pretty low. It’s the opposite of a light aluminum jack but I can lift the car 24” and do not have to run it up on boards. Jim

POST 9Original post

Wait, that's exactly why I DID put a 2-post in earlier this year. I'm old and now I roll around in an office chair and a tool table/work surface on wheels and I put the vehicle at the position that supports my smallest possible reach and effort. I probably spend more time in prep than I do in task. It's sorta fun actually. Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

POST 10Original post

Thanks for that! I’ll measure mine and compare the height. The board I have is an inch… so I’m close. The other tricky part I have an 8k dollar floor and I’m also putting the Jack wheels on 1/4” particle board to protect the floor..

POST 11Original post

I have an old Craftsman version of this that works perfectly.

POST 12Original post

I have that same Harbor Freight beast as 981cayman*s. I use it with lift bars and it still fits without any prep. My car is stock height though.

POST 13Original post

Thanks guys I’ll check these out I also ran across bag pneumatic jacks that looked pretty cool…

POST 14Original post

Is quickjack an option? I’ve seen some folks who have a “drive-over” setup. I love my QJ. Shawn in VA (USA)

POST 15Original post

I like those too… this seems like a good sticky thread… “what works and what doesn’t work on various setups”. This is obviously something we’re all faced with, that and driveways and uneven roads

POST 16Original post

These are pricey but they look rugged Home - BRIDJIT Curb Ramps Home at BRIDJIT.com, The Original Curb Ramp Company, and The Only One Made In The USA. www.bridjit.com

POST 17Original post

Bought them… sent them back.. my 1.2” thick board chunks worked better

POST 18Original post

I have that low profile HF jack too, works a treat

POST 19Original post

Pic? My 3 ton monster craftsman doesn’t go low enough

POST 20Original post

I removed the front wheels off the jack in order to install my new 19" 's last week. Wasn't thrilled about doing it but it did the trick without any issues.
