Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

So when I accelerate hard and change gear at high RPM I can feel a noticable "thunk". Presumably this is an engine mount but which is most likely? Front or sides? I feel like the front is most likely Cheers Julian

POST 2Original post

Could be any (or all!) of the three, but I would bet on one or both of the rear tranny mounts. If they were bad the whole power train would rotate under the torque. Might be prudent to check your CV joints as well.

POST 3Original post

It's most likely the front engine mount. This is a known issue with these cars. How many miles on your car, and what year is it? Many of the rubber parts in Porsches deteriorate rapidly, and the front engine mount is a prime example of that.

POST 4Original post

Thanks for the feedback. Its an 06 Boxster S with 133k miles. I've been under the car plenty and also replaced an axle recently so I know all the CV's are OK. I know I'm doing an oil change in the next couple of weeks so I think I'll just pull off the front mount while I'm under there and give it a look.

POST 5Original post

If you're going to go thought the work of pulling the front mount I'd just have the parts on hand and replace it. They don't seem to last very long.

POST 6Original post

Yeah I was thinking along those lines, the insert itself isn't very expensive and unless it looks new when I pull it off I'll just replace it. I need to get myself a gopro or something I can stick in the engine bay and under the car etc to get a better look at things as I drive the car.

POST 7Original post

I just want to thank the OP for his, likely unintended, confirmation that a well kept 987.1 can bring smiles for many many thousands of miles. Or put another way, when he states it has 133,000 miles on it, it makes me think one of my sons is likely to inherit their dad's Porsche. Lol (I'm at 48,000) Good luck with sorting yours and keep that odometer rolling. Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

POST 8Original post

well....to be clear I'm not sure this one was that well looked after by the previous owner (all four tires were different brands AND SIZES!).....however, it doesn't have bore scoring and NOW it's being well looked after . I got it at the right price and in full knowledge that it needed work. I also love working the car almost as much as driving it. Best thing to do is get out and drive it!

POST 9Original post

I had my car in the shop for a Function First orange motor mount insert install and found that the motor mount was completely shot. Luckily they called in a OEM replacement part and within a hour later, I had my car back. I had the car in the shop for a total of 2 hours. They also replaced the transmission mounts to Function First Orange ones as well. More NVH for sure but minimal motor movement after install. The insert and a new motor mount certainly removed any movement by the motor. The transmission mounts also tightened up the transaxle movements as well.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
