In most cases that relationship would mean he sent it back there, but I’m guessing it wouldn’t meet the Approved Used standards.

This auction starts tonight and I’m thinking of trying to win it.
It looks to me that the passenger seat has a fairly large stain on the houndstooth material and I just could not live with seeing that every time I got in the car. What are the options & costs for cleaning/repairing this? The back of the passenger seat also looks quite worn - so same question for that.
Before I get too excited, do you think the fact it’s a limited edition will justify a significant additional premium over a similarly spec’d Targa? The fact it’s a limited edition means little to me, I just really like the spec.
Would be keen to hear any thoughts on the car especially if somebody happens to know it.
If I remember correctly these were all ordered by OPC Matfair, I remember seeing one in the showroom at the time. So it's not a "Factory" Limited Edition...but ten cars ordered by an OPC to an identical spec. They then put a marketing twist on it and sell them at a premium. Worth no more than another nicely specced Targa now.
This guy does repairs for my OPC

Don't know if they do repairs but Southbound have a good reputation

Thanks. I’ll see if I can find out a bit more about the stain and then get in touch to see if they can help.
Care to have a guess as to what it’ll achieve?
Just wanted to say, that's a lovely specification car trim wise). Personally I think it manages to pull that look off quite well. You should also note that if the hounds-tooth does it for you (like it does it for me) you won't find many about as 99% of non-GT 991s are leather inside.
Having said that, the car in the ad looks relatively "worn" for the mileage. I see more nicks and marks in the various leather panels than I would be happy with for the age and mileage. I know the leather on the doors, dash etc of my 997 marks somewhat easily but I'm not sure that even with 6x the mileage I have as many marks.
One has just come on for £112k at OPC Cardiff. Absolutely mental money imo. Spec editions like this are cars some people think are an easy way into ‘limited’ Porsche’s thinking they’ll make some money, but likely never do (except the first buyer).
ETA: also would agree with the above, doesn’t look that well looked after which may well be why it’s on CC.
Where are you seeing a stain, on the passenger seat back, that looks like a reflection coming back through the window screen.Couldn't see them trying to sell it with a bad stain on the seat.

EDIT
Yes, see what your saying now as have gone through all the pics.Ask the seller the question.Other than that its in great order, full leather dash as well.

It’s not the seat back, although, as has been mentioned here, that does look pretty worn.
The houndstooth material looks stained in a few photos including #104. Could be a shadow I suppose.
Seems like if the OPC car is anything to go by, this may go for more than I would be happy to pay. That was a short lived dream.
Well...... That my friend is an absolute belter !
I'm not any marks on the dash top or the door cards, The sill plates are a nice touch as is the cup holder lettering, floor mats and the centre console embossed highlights the 'EXCLUSIVE" appeal.
It's not a GT car...... so to some it will never be that kind of Excusive, but for a drop top, wide body and 4S there's not much that to sniff at, The marks on the rear of passenger seat possibly due to a lap top bag, maybe even a Golf bag or similar, personally...... your never going to see it AND probably never going to have any one one sat there and my guess is the first time you drive it you will forget about the marks.
The seat stain..... looks like "SOL GLO" but most likely its a wet patch from when the roof has come back.
The houndstooth i like..... I've thought about it in mine.
If it's GT SILVER then get it bought !!!!!! and enjoy !
I bet a good detailer would remove the marks on the seats (I think there’s one on the driver’s side as well).
I think it’s in slightly uncharted territory price-wise so I’d use the value of a standard age/mileage Targa as the benchmark & be senisible. I see Top555 have a later turbo charged car an advertised incl. same colour & trim for £99,950 but a “67” plate & w/o the X51 pack or PCCBs etc. It’s also how much you value the normally aspirated car “high spec” car at especially when it’s not say a GTS which is acknowledged as the better driver's car. I also think I would want to know genuinely why both doors were repainted as this could effect the “collectibility” of it in the future (surely if it were “special” they’d have taken pics before they had the work done).
Interesting reading for the OP here...

So I know the DP who commissioned these and discussed these cars at the time. Your understanding is not my understanding.
The Car is based upon the original Targa Floria first and not only was it done with the Porsche Exclusive department, it was a limited car direct from Porsche and badged accordingly.
I don’t know how you get more “factory” than that.
The other misunderstood element is that it is not simply a “a nicely specced Targa” because some options were never available unless you went through Porsche Exclusive. Whether you place value in that is whether it’s right car for you.

What’s it is missing to justify a price premium is that it’s not a numbers car. I.e. no badge saying 1 of 10.
I think it should be priced as a very nicely specced Targa. Nothing on that car that I can see on that car wouldn’t have been available through Porsche Exclusive for any car apart from the badge on the trim strip saying “Exclusive Mayfair Edition” and the script on the door.
It’s not a 911 but I have a Macan sat on my drive which is a similar edition it’s an “Exclusive Performance Edition”...has bespoke interior and exterior features only available on that car etc etc each OPC only got one. Was an official factory product not one for an OPC. It’s worth no more than any other car with a nice spec.
Like others have said, this is just a high spec car ordered in a batch of 10 by a opc.
It’s not a factory limited edition car, it’s a car anyone could of specified if they wanted to when new.
I see no reason why anyone would pay a large premium over any other nicely specified targa in the same condition.
At £68k plus commission with 5 days to go it’s not far off retail £s IMO for a normal Targa of its age. From the pictures of the wear it looks like it’s been a car driven for lots of short journeys. For the OP, I’d be asking to see the last “condition report” that I think the servicing OPC would supply to show the tyre condition as the car could be heading for “top money” & you’d want to know exactly how many mm of tread are remaining as the last MOT had an advisory on both rear tyres for side wall damage so I’d also be asking have the wheels been refurbished at any time?
It’ll be interesting to see where this ends price-wise.....
Whee;s are a good point...I noticed they looked in very good condition which seems unlikely given I am guessing the car has been used in London a lot judging by the photos

I’ve asked the questions on CC but no answers yet. Totally up to the vendor but if I had a car up for sale I’d be all over the Q&A.
Anyway, looks like there might be people out there willing to pay a premium for this car so I’ll likely miss out.
Hi,
I too have asked questions re the targa.
Not all answered and I do find the seller swapping from I to We seems a little odd.
Also using the typical “known” in terms of condition ‘ damage etc.
One would surely expect the owner of a one owner/low miles car to know whether any damage or not?
May be completely innocent but enough to curtail my interest.
I also agree with others that a not overly loved London car and could be a multi user car?
Well spotted, peeling off.
May be spent most of its life parked on a street?
Quite tired for a one owner/15k car and respraying both doors ?
The worst thing with not physically viewing as in more normal times or at a traditional auction is that one doesn’t get to see the whole picture so the owner / description becomes even more important.
It seems to confound CC but I won’t buy without knowing who the owner is and viewing the V5.
pic 40 - poorly painted - over the decals! WTF???
I've often wondered who's behind Collecting Cars as it seems to get lots of social media promotion from car journalists like Chris Harris.
Looking at the condition of the car and the owner’s answer to questions it is not a car I would buy. Doesn’t feel like a car that’s been well looked after.
Someone ask if the car had any damage, first of all they say no. Then yes!
Who painted that door a blind person with a spray can from Halfords.
Better cars out there.

Some biz connection and friend (partly due to west of England location) of Edward Lovett - Dick Lovett family - who owns Collecting Cars.
For anyone interested in this car have a look at Top555, they have a 2017 Targa 4S that looks very similar, I know it is newer but the spec seems similar and its only done 1500 miles and looks immaculate . Doesn't say its a Mayfair car but worth a look its £99950.
Appears to be overspray in a number of areas, inc. front wing around inside of fuel cap and possibly trim on top of nearside rear quarter too. Likely smart repairs or some type of chips away setup. Not something I'd be happy with. The damage to some of the interior leather panels is also not an easy fix.. hugely costly when you get in to replacing trim. A shame on what otherwise is a lovely car.
Does look a bit grubby to me for the miles. The interior shots around the driver, door, shiny steering wheel, marked up door pull etc. London car? So low miles but lots of ins, outs, stops starts etc.
It’s a beautiful thing but it’s definitely seen some interior “traffic”
Cheib said:
My guess is dealers didn’t want it because of the condition/repairs...so it ended up on CC.
This is what I was thinking. It says he was the first owner so must’ve had a pretty good relationship to get a 1 of 10 car. In most cases that relationship would mean he sent it back there, but I’m guessing it wouldn’t meet the Approved Used standards.
Now sold for £75,001. Seems a decent price compared to the Cardiff one, but the standard of it would’ve put me off.

This is back on Collecting Cars after having sold last year for £75k + fees. The previous sale info has been removed from Collecting Cars….
Looks in better shape than last year but would appreciate the forensic analysis certain Ph’ers are capable of.

Seller was London based last time IIRC and yes as you say it wasn’t in great condition. Sounds like he’s done some work to it but realistically to get good money for a car like this the paintwork needs to be better than this car’s.

The Cardiff one was advertised last year, but the Tewkesbury one that was advertised recently (could be the same car) has indeed disappeared from the listings. I have a suspicion it was removed rather than sold.
Hi Rufus, I owned one of these too. not sure if you know but there’s a facebook group for the owners of the cars (5 of the 10 are on it). If you’re interested in joining take a look or DM me

That's rather subjective though. An auction price isn't really comparable to a dealer price. There are only 10 in existence and if you want one, and to be fair that's a lovely one with very low mileage, you have to pay the price or go without.
I do find it a shame it has had so little use though. I guess some people buy to know they own and look at it. I use mine every week in all weathers.

I struggle to think that if someone really wanted one that they'd be prepared to pay £120K....which in the great scheme of things is not far off the price of the 50th Anniversary Targa which I think is a nicer proposition. The Mayfair edition is not a globally edition and I don't think it holds the same kudos and gravitas as a limited edition than those that get released across multiple markets.

I did some research when I bought mine and I think the Florio was 30 cars, 10 UK, 10 France and 10 Germany. The French and German cars are different colours and of course the steering wheel is on the wrong side
.
The 50th Anniversary is 750 cars and £150,000 odd.
Still, there never is much sense in limited edition Porsche pricing. I guess it comes down to what people are willing to pay.

It was approved by Porsche UK but didn’t get the full stamp as an individual and official model from Porsche AG, hence the logbooks show them as a 4S Targa.
The idea of it created other ‘Exclusive Limited Editions’ in Europe celebrating various Porsche Anniversaries...
In Holland they had a limited collection of 15 cars in Gulf Blue, France got 15 anniversary cars in exclusive Black Gray custom colour scheme. Another 15 were made for Germany in Etna blue (a solid colour reminiscent of the 356 from 1960) and Italy had theirs as a special 30th anniversary in Gemini metallic blue, limited to 30 cars. In Luxemburg, the edition was limited to just 11 cars, selling 10 and Porsche Luxemburg keeping one, all finished in Scheifer Grau colour scheme (that of Steve McQueen’s Porsche). Belgium got 10 cars in Grey, similar to Atlas Grey.
...all approved by Porsche AG, BUT the UK one was NOT approved by Porsche AG as it was dealer created.

indeed
the main thing t note is they are not recognised by Porsche as an edition, it is a dealer limited edition. Does that make any odds? at £120K it might do.
