I don’t think they (Manual only) will hugely drop from today’s mileage adjusted price levels - I expect 991 cars to eventually trade below them

But it was too quiet on my 997.2 until the centre muffler was replaced with a bypass, I paid around £550 including installation and it is an awesome mod.

the Portland car I really liked the colour combo and did think it was a clean car with a nice history - I made them an offer which was declined (possibly around a grand apart) may get something done on it.

Evening all
Been looking at these and had a test drive today which I really enjoyed and has got me thinking about buying one of these next week. Have earmarked the below 2 and done some home work with both checking out as nice cars.
I’m leaning towards the top (blue) car as it’s 10% cheaper, not bothered re the extra miles, I prefer blue and can live without Chrono and PSE. Would anyone strongly argue the merit of the grey car? I don’t think i’m missing any other options given I want. fairly low miler.
https://www.portlandautos.co.uk/stock/yorkshire-po...
https://www.harbourcars.com/used-car-details/Porsc...
Parking all the potential pitfalls of 2030 and all our cars being useless or at least worthless these cars seem like potentially good news to me in terms of a good weekend car to enjoy, not be too precious over but also not too lose your shirt on.
All input much appreciated.
PSE does make a big difference to the overall experience, you can add but the OEM PSE is about £3k now, which is very pricey...
Other solutions available of course as long as you do t want to stick a warranty on it.
Haywood & Scott or Carnewal worth looking at for less than £1k.
Sport Chrono again makes a big difference, you can get this fitted for about £650.00
Dark blue will be fun to keep looking good...
The grey car is top money, but you’re paying for the low miles of course...
If you could get the grey car for £45k that would be a good buy IMO
Good luck
The grey car certainly looks good, but you are paying for lower miles.
The stone grey leather and standard seats (rather than sports seats) are the main downsides. But if you like them no issue.
My friend sold his C2S for less than that about 8 years ago (with lower miles), would have probably been one of the cheapest daily drivers out there over the last 8 years given reliability, low servicing and insurance costs of these. I am really tempted to get one of them at some point - IMO the high point of modern (Standard) 911s. I don’t think they (Manual only) will hugely drop from today’s mileage adjusted price levels - I expect 991 cars to eventually trade below them
I’ve got a manual 997 GTS....the one thing I would say about Sports Chrono on these is that it sharpens up the throttle response a bit which for me when I am driving enthusiastically and I want to Heel & Toe makes a big difference...the other thing the Sport mode does is loosen up the traction control so it allows a tiny bit more slip making the car a bit more “playful”. Understand you don’t care about PSE OP but a lot of people with PSE think they’re too quiet, remedied as above with aftermarket solutions. Grey car is more expensive but I can always see someone paying top money for that car because most buyers will want PSE and Sports Chrono.
I like blue cars too so would be drawn to that but I think the spec of the grey car would have me looking at that one very closely. Either will be great....I’ve read so many comments about how expensive manual 997.2’s are but they always seem to sell and I’d agree that a 991 Carrera or S will in the future be a cheaper car. They feel more like a GT car than the 997...they need to be pushed harder to drive like a sports car for me which they do very well but at lower road speeds don’t have the character of a 997.2.
They always do sell but only fast at the £40k mark
Go over £45k and they stick for much longer.
Which is for all to see in the 2 cars posted, both been for sale a while now. While a few at £42k have sold, but in black.
Hi Richard
I think of all the cars you have considered, well the ones I have seen you posted about, 987.2 Spyder, 987.2 Cayman R, 997 GTS and now a 997 C2S then the C2S are the least special.
If it’s a daily then yep maybe but as something to swoon over on the days you do get it out the garage then maybe not.
I do think you are in the right era but perhaps the more special ones may hold your interest longer.
Regardless of my opinion I think they both look rather lovely but the Harbour cars one for me.
All the very best
Ed
Or forget the 'S' and pick up a peach like this
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202004088...
with what looks like alot of maintenance already done.
Agree, nothing wrong with a non 'S', easily enough power for today's roads, hardly any difference in the real world.
Still need PSE, Chrono and PASM though (an option on the non 'S'), or the M030 lowered suspension.
That blue does nothing for me so that's probably "colouring" my opinion.
Sport chrono does virtually nothing in those cars, it's just fiddling with ECU electronics to give you what feels like sharper throttle. You can get that done permanently by the likes of DMS with a bit more power at the same time if you feel that you need it. I had one without and drove cars with it, could not feel the difference in the real world.
PSE... I don't know, I've actually never really liked how they sound. Porsche goes for a kind of strange hollow sound, a sound that they have maintained in the later models where it's mostly fake anyhow. There are better aftermarket alternatives that don't cost a whole lot. It has never been a decision factor for me when buying a Porsche.

sports mode feels like the car should, it's lifeless off imo. So when you say "feels " like a shaper throttle you "DO get" a sharper faster response which is how it should be. AS other have said it also stops the orange light flashing all the time, so you can get a slip angle at the rear and the wheels rotating a bit which is nice. Sports mode off is to nanny for the car.
PS I would not use DMS for Porkers, but that's another thread.
dfi cars exhaust most go for a by pass it was the sharkwerks thing to do in 2010 after the better older sounding cars.
Many thanks for all the input - some great points and to summarise what I take away thus far:
Objective Bits
Mixed reviews on chrono - but i’m not bothered about the wart so could have retrofitted for c. £650
As per other threads / research some sort of exhaust fettling required if no PSE. I have no ambition to add a warranty to the car so aftermarket would work
These 2 are relevant points as could in effect move the cars £1500 closer together
I’m comfy in either of the seats and I don’t see this as a big consideration personally
Subjective
I personally like the blue whereas fond grey a bit boring
I prefer the wheels on the blue car
I like the grey interior on both
Agreed there are more “special” cars from the era but these pose their own compromises. Back seats may also soon prove beneficial..
Appreciate I’m going to be paying for the privilege of not waiting for a nice car to come up privately but this doesn’t unduly concern me as I want to get something sorted out and I will be looking to negotiate on the price
Disclaimer - I love the PSE because it is switchable and the switch is nicely integrated in the dash design. But it was too quiet on my 997.2 until the centre muffler was replaced with a bypass, I paid around £550 including installation and it is an awesome mod.
However, I know the day the PSE conks out - probably not long now given the age of these cars - I am unlikely to replace it with a standard one, they cost an absolute fortune. There are plenty of aftermarket switchable exhausts.
TL;DR - PSE is great but I wouldn't make it a must-have
997.2 c2s manuals are a bit thin on the ground at the mo. Im sure more will come to market in the spring/summer. Have you seen the car at RPM

You buy the grey one as its now sold!
Im looking for 911 too, but just not sure wether should stretch and get a Turbo. 991.1. however.... not many for sale at the moment (Manual) and just think maybe should wait until Spring when more get put on the market.....

Good banter re the back seats! Early days so I'll say no more..
I can confirm it wasn't me who bought the Harbour car - they were in touch yesterday to tell me it had been sold and was being collected today. I haven't had a subsequent update so I've no idea if it's sold or not. They told me no movement at all price wise on the car and it feels a bit toppy to me.

Black wheels look terrible. Not sure about the decals either
the decal could be easily removed and the wheels re-done in a different finish. I think on the whole it looks like a rather special specced Gen 2.

Nope, just thought that buckets in a Gen 2 S are rare, I've never seen one for sale like that, but I have no affiliation to the car - just sharing the link as might be just want the doctor ordered for some folk.
I like it, would prob remove decal though. I imagine as its an 08 plate specced with buckets and pccb it will of been an early press car. Strange no pse though

Agree - if I was looking for one, that would be close to perfect (change rims and remove decals).
I love the 997.2 and buckets are very rare but for me make these cars a lot more special
If I were looking for one, I would definitely bid on this

£44k. Seems a great deal.

Pretty sure they said they were factory optioned. Heck of a deal indeed
rrroro said:

Plus another £2640 in buyer's feels so £46,640 in total.
You can get a 991 for that sort of money, or a 997.1 Turbo.
So a nice example, but not really amazing value IMO.
Like all early new models most are beset by build quality problems, yet again personally if I was in the market for a 997.2 I would be looking for a late 2009(2010my) car.
I thought it went for a good price. I think if the photos were better it would have gone for more. It was odd that it was recently bought at another auction though, then sold on CC a matter of weeks later.
That red C2S has changed hands too many times to be good one. Seen it for sale at some real s holes. Nice spec but there may be a story behind that one as it keeps on changing hands never stayed in one place and been enjoyed. I almost bought it for the seats to then move it on again.
