Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there - just bought my first porsche - 996 C4 2003 model. Only had it a few days but have noticed something quite strange. When inside the car i can hear a ticking noise even before starting the engine in the morning. Sometimes it goes away whilst driving but then comes back again. Am I being really stupid? am i missing something really obvious? Any help is greatly appreciated. THanks.

POST 2Original post

Hi and welcome aboard. Does your ticking occure when you insert the key and turn it, so that the ignition is on, but before the engine is started, or just when you sit in the car without the key in the ignition?

POST 3Original post

Mine sometimes 'ticks', when I unlock and open the door, for a few seconds before I start the ignition. Seems to be coming from either the stereo or air-con unit, it's fairly intermittent and doesn't worry me unduly... :dont know:

POST 4Original post

Is the climate control in AUTO mode? In which case it may be opening and closing directional vents and/or heater matrix or a/c heat exchanger pathways. Or less likely, it could be the priming relays (fuel pump etc) the minute you open the door. However, these should disappear once on the move.

POST 6Original post

Mine is in auto 24x7x365, never turn it off, just adjust temperature up or down as required (although it generally stays around 20 or 21 oC). It only 'whirrs / clicks' for a few seconds, every now and then, I'm not in a hurry to get it looked at, it just adds a bit of character to the sterile German engineering... uh:

POST 7Original post

I never sleep. When I'm not on here, I'm on Piston Heads / Club Scuderia / Asian Babes / Symantec Corporation etc etc

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for your replies guys - it occurs when i get in the car without the key even in the ignition. I have managed to do a search on the forum - is it possibly due to the pcm2 unit? If so, am i just waiting for it to go bang or something?

POST 9Original post

Interesting; what can you tell me about CommandCentral, their Storage SRM tool? My lot are in the process of rolling it out across our estate...

POST 10Original post

Ah, didn't know you had PCM. It could be the external/satellite optical drive spining up. My other car does that in readiness once the driver's door is opened.

POST 11Original post

I can tell you it removes all the malware and viruses I pick up on Asian Babes. :thumb:

POST 12Original post

hmmm....wonder if that'll work with BBW MILF's...

Run a fully secured sandbox in Chrome. So much easier if they don't get in to start with.
