I'm not sure there is much of a gamble here, I had mine fitted back end of last year for a similar price.

You have an effective operating window of 2 years so unless you do a lot of miles, you'll need to change before they wear out.

The garage I used were a little inexperienced with working on such a marque, but tyres are tyres right?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
28 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I bought two 295/30/18 Michelin sport cups for the GT3 and they were 272 for the pair. unreal!

Have you had them delivered yet?
When you do can you have a look at the manufacturing date on them please and let me know. At that price they are a no-brainer. But only if they are not 5-6 years old.

Shouldn't GT3 rears have a load rating of 98 ?

Why would they be that old?

Because some of the cheaper online tyre providers seem to be able to supply such cheap tyres by going round buying up old unwanted stock and re-selling it. As such the age of te tyres can vary. It's not always factory fresh product. A fellow 996 GT3 owner received a pair of rear tyres from tyreleader that were manufactured 3 years apart. And with Cup tyres that can make quite a difference. They require special storage, particularly in winter, to ensure they never get below freezing point.
2012. All four of them. Seem to be from same batch.
Works for me.
My gt3 is sorn over winter n will go back on road in April. Does a few K miles per annum.

Thanks! That's not too bad.

That's not great. You have an effective operating window of 2 years so unless you do a lot of miles, you'll need to change before they wear out.
It wouldn't be too bad for the rear as they last about a year and a half on my 996T but the front last beyond 4 years so I'll insist on factory order brand new, normally via Costco.
Well I am hardly competing in f1 or gt3 cup now am I! If they show sign of cracking or blueing then they get junked.
At that price if I need to junk them then I will. The gt3 can chew through rears in 4-5k miles so it will be fine.

True, I do c, 10k a year so rears last just over a year. It's more the front I worry about. I had to junk mine with 5mm still on the front on my last pair which I feel wasteful even if the money doesn't concern me ...
Cups only come with 5mm on them so you can get them worn pretty quick if you are using them on track and doing fast road.
GT3s have no nanny state crap on them too so its all about the traction. Amazes me how quick they lunch rears ;-)
Thanks for the heads-up.
I have taken a gamble and bought 4 MPSS in 997 Turbo sizes (235/305) for £825 inc. fitted from Blackcircles.
My appointment is on Thursday morning, I will report back with info after that.

I'm not sure there is much of a gamble here, I had mine fitted back end of last year for a similar price. The garage I used were a little inexperienced with working on such a marque, but tyres are tyres right? They struggled to balance the rear wheels given the width, but weights were not required in the end in any case - I sorted this elsewhere for £10.
Anyway, great tyres for a great price and would buy from Blackcircles again.
totally agree mate but as I have centre-lock wheels and ceramic brakes the lads from Jet garage will have their hands full
I have called ahead and they have the equipment to get the wheels off, I just hope they have the shim to get the wheel off smoothly.

Not exactly a great deal, I recently got a pair of 295/30/R18 for £190 each delivered from Tyreleader. Manufacture date Dec 2014.
so the cups were £133 each - total 266. you are saying 380 total is better? so that's a 1/3 cheaper?
we are talking GBP here not lira or euros ;-)

Was responding to the OP. This thread is about the Michelin PS2's right?
seconded to Jackwood there.
if your car is a summer/weekender like mine then cups are awesome. once they are warm they are just epic. amazing turn in, fell, grip etc.
my old e46 CSL came with PS2s on so I flogged them and put it onto Cups which it was meant to be on. transformed the car and it came alive again. but it was a summer car/weekender.
as an every day tyre the PS2 is hands down miles better.
the cups don't work at all when cold & wet. worst combo. avoid standing water. they are noisier than PS2s as well if you care about that and you will get less MPG (irrelevant in a GT3 or turbo but a fact)
they also pick up more stones and debris which is noticed in the CSL and GT3 as you have les sound deadening. can be a mare for the side skirts and rear bumper edge where it meets the rear tyre = sandblasting if not careful. don't follow a GT3 with wide (305 or 325) either. its like a hoover for stones and spits them straight out at you!!
the Cup2 is supposed to be a big step up and many of the super and hyper cars come with these now. even better dry grip, much better wet and last longer than cups.
fair play to Michelin and tyre tech has moved on a lot as the cup must be a 10-15 r old tyre design now?

Hope all goes well, on this basis they will indeed have their hands full. Keep us posted on how they get on.

OK so last minute problems, the garage have the right tool to remove a 100nm centrelock but they need the locking nut which I don't have to hand. I think next time I will make sure my locking nut is to hand and get a shim for the guys to use too.
Blackcircles were great at trying to find the right garage etc. but alas it was a step too far.
Long story short, as the car needs to be ready for a Wales run on Sat, I went full retard and my Turbo will now be in on Friday morning at OPC to have a set of MPS Cup 2 N0's fitted.
