Mine doesnt get here until late February, but had a chance to drive one today. Very sweet. It's all been said before... good power, ridiculous handling, beautiful, and comfortable. I just got the sense that the grip was practically limitless. The engine sounds great all the time, especially at high revs of course. I played around with the
PCM
and I think I am going to like it. Much nicer than the nav on my M3.
Much like I felt after driving the 987S, my M3 felt like an SUV after driving the
Cayman S
.
The car had
PASM
and
sport chrono
, which mine does not. I kept the
sport chrono
off and kept
PASM
on soft, since I won't have it. This way, my car will feel even tighter in its "always on" normal mode.
I definitely made the right choice and can't wait until next month.
Congrats, been wondering what you've been up to! /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/tounge_smile.gif
I just got back from a very quick (as in short duration) first drive myself. After all the concern expressed about some feeling physically uncomfortable in the Cayman I thought I had better make sure I had not made a mistake myself. I am almost 6'4' and about 200lbs, and either 6 years of fitting into a TT has made my body shape adaptable to this style/size car, or fitting comfortably in the Cayman is just not a real problem. I thinks it's probably the latter. Sure, someone my height will need to drive with bent legs but there was nothing uncomfortable about the driving position that I was immediately aware of. That is not to say that uncomfort might surface after a long period in the car, but if it's like the TT, I will be able to easily sit in the Cayman for 4 hours at a stretch without much ill effect.
I now feel reassured and am now even more eagerly awaiting my Cayman!!
I've had my car almost a week and am also coming from an M3. I agree with your impression of the cars. The Cayman feels much more eager and alive. Not that the M3 isn't fast and capable, it's just that the Cayman has much more sports car feel all the time. So far, I love it.
I feel the same. Every time I go into a corner, I say to myself, 'I could have done that faster'. And every time I do it faster, I say 'I could have done that faster'!
I also came from an M3, after driving the Cayman, the M3 feels like a boat! Not in the same league.
Wow looks like everyone has an M3, I am coming from an
Audi
A4 Quattro which I think handles like a rat in a drain pipe, I just can't wait to drive the Cayman, thanks for also clarifing the sizing issues I am 6'3 and started to second guess my self a bit after some of those previous posts. 3 weeks and counting!
Looks like
BMW
is losing alot of M3 drivers to the Cayman... I sold an silver '02 Cab just before taking delivery on a midnight bluecayman last week. Maybe Porsche is the main benefactor from the Bangle butt...I have to say I am extremely pleased with the upgrade so far... John
Mark & nscott,
Now you know what you have to look forward to. After Ihad my test drive the wait intensified. Now it is sitting in my garage and I am having a hard time not going out there and cleaning it or something. I might just have to go for a nightcap drive before I go to bed. I just can't get enough of this toy!
Aloha Russ
I was finally able totest drive one last night as well!!!
It wasthe first one I've seen in person withArctic/19'SD combo which I had been having some second thoughts about after seeing so many other beautiful cars but I loved it and have no more doubts.
It was a triptronic which mine isn't but they didn't have any manuals and I couldn't wait any longer. Dealer started the drive to show me a few things like taking a pretty sharp turn at 95 mph, what a rush! I had a perma-grin the rest of the ride!/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/teeth_smile.gif
Some of the posts had loweredmy expectations about the acceleration feel and sound under 4000RPM. Both were incredible as far as I'm concerned. One thing that was nice is at lower RPM's it's actually very quite so if on a long drive you wanted to tone it down you certainly can.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the trip itself. The car was still very responsive and a blast. If I would have had to compromise and get it I would still be very very happy with the car.
So much else has already been said I won't repeat it but I can say this is an awesome car! Mine will be here in 5-7 very very long days.....
So much better to drive thn the 911....
