I have lusted after a Porsche 928 since I first saw one in a Tamiya model catalogue in the early 80's. For the past 30 years I have dreamed of owning one. I got close 3 years ago but then all sorts of shit got in the way. I learned of a local one for sale late last year and much searching for info and advice I can finally call it mine
1983 (oops not an 82 model!!) auto, burgandy paint and same leather interior. Presents really well and is good mechanically.
Will upload some pics later when I get onto my pc
These will do for now, I will have to get some better ones when it is in my driveway
Photos now updated, thanks photochucket!
Thanks to all that helped out, offered advice and gave me lots of info.
Thanks tazzie. And thanks to my lovely wife.
remember many good times as a young child riding in my dads 928S. Have always loved these things. Congrats on the acquisition ANF. I reckon you've bought just at the right time too.
At last, the entire PFA community can breathe a sigh of relief and stop looking for 928s for Adam. This one looks great and we expect some great pics before the slippery slope commences. It's about time - congratulations on your first Porsche!
I can confirm that it goes like a stabbed rat. And bellows like a stabbed bull.
By a two headed coincidence , this 928 belonged to the brother of the guy I bought mine from.
the interior is what I love the most about a 928, especially when in rich period colours.
this one is a superb merlot tranpsorting machine - never worry about spilling a drop!
Congratulations Adam. It's been a long search, by finally rewarded with what looks like a cracking car. That interior looks amazing. Now to spend some quality time with the car traveling those amazing roads.
When I come back to Tassie (in June or July) we'll have to go out driving. I'll probably be driving my Megane RS this time, so alas, I will wait for you at each town.
Thanks
Thanks Barks
Thanks T, yep prices can now soar
Don't think magnus will have much impact though....
Cheers, it looks great I love the colours!
Thanks. Everything will be properly stored being any acceleration and braking tests
Thanks Aaron, indeed it was and it is!
Thanks. Yes I think the world is realising what great cars these are
Thanks
Thanks Rob and the whole PFA community
definitely a great bunch!
More and better pics will come, soon.... the owner has kindly let me keep at his house until our new home is finished. I will go and visit my Porsche as often as I can
Thanks Steve!
Thanks tazzie, yes it does go and nice very nice! They are 928 "brothers in arms"
Thanks Corki, I love red/ burgundy interiors
The existing seat base is to be modified to enable me to fit. Some of the really deep padding will be removed and new padding shaped to suit. will take me a little while to get this all sorted
Thanks
Thankyou. Yep, they are great cars all round
Thanks, she is quick and sounds good being quick
Thanks Stew, it has been!! But well worth the wait!
928s can be very w I d e Stew, plus get tazzie's there as well and you would have no chance
Thankyou, will!!
Congrats, that is a great looking example and I LOVE the interior.
I need to get me one of these wine country Porsches for those days out in the vineyards.
Yours is so much like this one:

Even the numberplate is almost exactly the same!!
I have seen that ad and did notice the no. plates were very similar!
Colour wise yes the same. 86 model is the first of the 5.0 litre and quad cams (mine is 4.7 and SOHC) actual lower power output but at diff revs I think, interior is slightly diff (door trims and seats), those seats would do me nicely - later model ones that give more headroom - fancy a visit? How quick are you with the tools
The rest is pretty much the same. Lovely colour
Took it for a nice drive last night getting acquainted with my 928
Goes very well! Sounds great! Looks great! GREAT!
An odd feeling/ look driving it with the headlights up, never driven a pop up headlight car before, COOL
Some better shots.
Number plate needs straightening!
I'll be moving house in the not too distant future, which means public transport will not be walking distance, which in turn means a more sensible daily drive. With all due respect, one that I am more comfortable to leave in a train car park. Both the 928 and
the 635csi are
on the short list.
When I was about 7 years old, one day when I was waiting in my dad's 928S while he ran in to buy a paper (or something like that); an elderly man in a Mitsubishi Sigma got out of his car, walked up to the window and stated with frustration in a thick european accent "very nice car but no bloody bumper bar!". I'll never forget that.
Inop sorry, I think needs regassing but will look at later. No digital temp gauge either. When (if) I do fix will let you know (may be a little while though)
The "bumperless" 928 was ahead of it's time.
Mine is inop , which in Tas is NBD unless you are menopausal. But my understanding is that the 928 AC system is highly efficient when it is appropriately maintained.
found that guards red manual with the poxy looking wheels....was tempted
also saw the blue manual in the act that needs work...to me that one is overpriced
Easy fix

(I'd have these as they are 8" if I could justify it....)
Agree the blue one does appear to be over priced.
Still a bit partial to this one

Such a great looking car, and has always loved the look of the 928 - I definitely want to own one at some stage.. Love the proportions, long bonnet and a well rounded arse..
Congrats on a fantastic looking car.
My wife was quite keen to see my new toy and go for a drive in it, so on Sunday we went after we had finished working on our new house. She was quite impressed by it and then went to visit one of her friends (who loved it also).
We left when it was dark and soon found that the lights and all drains a battery not being charged quite quickly.... Not good! A tow home solved all that and a charged up battery showed nothing wrong - except for non charging alternator!
My wife was great about it and not upset at all (she is fantastic!) and was more worried that my dream car had let me down. A good result all round. My wife likes the car, due to car being towed is now home with me (must do work and stop looking at the 928.....), alternator is only minor problem to me
A whacker packer is the "name" given to a compacting plate used in the housing/ construction industry.... hence my confusion.
I see what you mean now, but would only be useful if the alternator was charging...
I have never had a car fail on me before and this one will be made to never do it again
The 928 electrics are fundamentally simple. A good battery is like, doh - and Adam knows this . The battery specs way less cranking power needed than your small modern runabout. The alternator needs removing and checking as to why the refurb hasn't worked. Or it might be something else. Either way , it's not a fancy pants alternator or rocket science - this is 80s technology. Which is one reason Adam bought it , and being hands on he will be able to sort this without drama or major expense. He just lacks instant spare time at the moment & we can all relate to that! Unless you are single and overworked, which are two problems that may need attention.
All used cars tend to need new batteries. It's just the sort of thing an owner ekes more life out of when they have mentally moved on from a car.
my alternator must be a bit dodgy because the charging light stays on for 20-30 seconds after starting. Always starts though, except if I forget to put the trickle charger on when leaving standing for periods of time.
Within normal limits for an SC. There is a fix on Rennlist or Pelican. But as there is fundamentally no alternator problem it shouldn't worry you in the slightest. My light stays on for a few seconds in the SC and the 928. A wee throttle blip and it's gone.
All my cars have a negative battery cutoff. Even though it's usually only the clock sucking current , I turn them off when I go on hols.
My car had a new battery installed in December when I first looked at it. It would still be ok if not flattened by dodgy alternator. I hope it charges up ok.... Will find out when I get home.
Yeah, so, anyway, I drove my 928 today for the first time in a couple of weeks, and yeah like those what don't know simply don't know. Best secret really, cheap and the BEST.
LMAO - I was trying to think of the most polar opposite 928 vehicle - I forgot about the Figaro ! But having said that, the Coppen only had 66 horses, it seems the Figaro was into the 70's
Im pretty sure the 928 starter motor puts out more power than both
Just took my 928 for our first real getting to know one another drive. First time just for a drive. WOW! A caged beast it is. I am in love with this car! Makes the right noise (sounds fantastic!!), feels amazing.
I find myself sneaking peaks at it all the time now finally home with me!!
Well worth the wait, a truly great car
Just need to fix the alternator and drive can be longer.....
That may well be on the cards.... My child seat fits in nicely, just need to see if my sons head will clear the hatch window....
But it does not feel that retro, could live daily with it easily.
Alternator was one of the recurring issues my dad experienced with his 928 back in the early 1990s. He told me he ended up fitting a Commodore part and never had another issue with it. Go figure!
'looking for jigsaw puzzles' would have to be the reason give if one were asked
It must be a nice feeling to have the 928 back up & running - well done mate.
