I assume it would make sense to get the 2 jobs done at the same time as they are in the same area of the engine, but the 996 maintenance kitty is currently running low.

Just had my fixed price minor service done at OPC and a few bits n bobs were reported by the engineer vehicle check form. I told the OPC I want to make some enquires, before they do any work & the 2 that I'm enquiring about are; 1) "Plug tubes leaking bank 4-6"...(does this mean I need to buy just 3 new tubes? & 2) "No 1&6 coils cracked" I know the coils can be bought individually for £26.79 ea for a Bosch coil from Design911 with 5% discount, (about £41 ea from OPC). But can the plug tubes be bought individually & where from? The OPC quoted £150 to replace the coils, and £152 to replace the tubes. I assume it would make sense to get the 2 jobs done at the same time as they are in the same area of the engine, but the 996 maintenance kitty is currently running low. Can they wait a month or 2 :?: I only do 3000 miles a year. Any coments welcome.....

The tubes and seals are available individually. Here is what you need to do 3. The prices are totals, not each. The grease is for the 'O' ring seals, and was superceded - I have shown the latest part number. They don't tend to gush, so you may be OK to leave it a while, or get an indy to do it.

i was quoted £150 (plus parts) by an indy to do all six, also told by them nothing to worry about and to leave it until the next service

The only issue you will have now that summer is officially over is that with the worsening weather the chance of water ingress through the cracked coils and causing a miss fire. This happened to me last year and had the car unceremoniously flat bedded to my indie where all six were replaced and now all is fine. Food for thought! regards M :thumb:
