Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I found this in back of the passenger side seat. I asked the service guy what it was and thinks it is for some attachment? Anyone know or has anyone who has there car got something behind the passenger sides seat? I would appreciate any comments? Maybe tomorrow after the PDI it will be explained? Russ Edited by - RussK on 01/17/2006 9:31:42 PM

POST 2Original post

I am hoping that someone who already has their car can look behind theor seat and let me know what they see! Thanks Russ

POST 3Original post

you made me look !!! felt like I could punch the piece through to the engine.... no idea what it is for... child seat? access to something?

POST 4Original post

I pushed in on it and it seems to be a cut out section under that piece of carpet. I am hoping that something attaches there and that it is not just a tear or some kind of damage. The thing that makes me think it is for something is that it is symetrically cut, but it is only on the passenger side. Anyone have an idea? Thanks Russ Edited by - RussK on 01/17/2006 10:56:02 PM

POST 5Original post

It is a child seat attachment. It is part of the mandatory LATCH system. It is covered in the Owners Manual.

POST 6Original post

sspender is correct! bingo! but did you know the rest of the LATCH system is an add-on kit you have to order separately so the Cayman is not entirely LATCH compliant out of the factory.

POST 7Original post

I knew what it was just by looking at it, but dang......it looks a little 'unfinished' to me.......but then again it will be covered all the time. Still looks undone though.

POST 8Original post

Carpet shops have a nap roller (not positive that is the correct name) that blends seams in carpet. That may help that spot disappear. Maybe you should ask the service department if they have access to one. Also, check some other cars to see how visible it is on them.

POST 9Original post

Thanks! I was worried about it, but it is good to know that it is supposed to be there. It is a little crude, I guess I see how it ends up after they prep the car. Appreciate all the comments! Russ

POST 10Original post

don't have this on our Cayman, checked both sides, but then again we dont have the child seat kit fitted.

POST 11Original post

S-Line it is a difference between UK and US cars most likely since by our federal law all cars must have a provision for a LATCH system since I believe 2002 or 2003. With cars with back seats this went into affect back then, with 2-seaters manufacturers had until last year I think to come up with a solution. As I said previously, to complete the LATCH install you still need a separate bracket in 2005 and newer model 997's and 987's including the Cayman. I am having that bracket installed in the next week or two and will do a photoshoot and article on it. There is also an airbag deactivation switch installed in the passenger side of the dash panel that can be accessed when the car door is open. It allows you to select between on, off or auto for the airbag. The bracket provides the lower anchor points for LATCH enabled car seats, which we have in our other cars.

POST 12Original post

K-Man S, Do you have this on your Boxster? Russ

POST 13Original post

I don't know, I don't have that Boxster anymore, traded it in on the Cayman.

POST 14Original post

mpollard, Can you look behind your passenger seat and tell me if you have the slot cut in the carpet? Or anyone else that has a U.S. Cayman? I am also still curious about the color of the back of the seats? Why are some silver? Anyone? Thanks Russ

POST 15Original post

Sport seats are silver on the back Russ as they are hard shell, non-sport seats are the leather or leatherette on the back in the interior color.

POST 16Original post

K-Man S, I should have known that, but having not ordered the Sports seats myself it was a mystery to me. Thank you again for clearing that up. Russ

POST 17Original post

Russ, I have the same perforated rectangle behind the passanger seat, but itis not noticeablebecause the carpet is black. It obviously is there for a reason, likely for the child fasterner system for the passanger seat.

POST 18Original post

Russ, Check your owner's manul, oh wait you don't have one yet! Here it is to confirm what I've been saying...

POST 19Original post

You are good K-Man S! I really do feel a whole lot better now. I just wish they would have done a cleaner looking job of it. Also I a sure am glad I didn't make a big fuss about it yesterday. I am sure that is one reason they don't like owners hanging around while they try and prep the car. Mahalo, Russ

POST 20Original post

S-Line- You don't have one because they were busy putting your steering wheel on the wrong side of the car!!! Just Kidding. RussK- Don't frett...you won't have much time to worry about that little spot as your seat faces forward. Enjoy your new car....It looks awesome. Cheers

POST 21Original post

K-Man cheers for the info........... as for the steering wheel on the wrong side?......depends what side of road you drive on/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/drive.gif cheers Rod
